One year later, he married Anna Maria McNaught and they moved to their new home next to Witt's original cabin. David Witt died in 1872 without any children born to him or AnnaMaria; however, he left behind an estate that included four grants of land near present day Garden City: two along the Peninsular River south of where Witt had settled (the present day city limits), one north of where he had settled (the present day township), and onePurchase land east of where Witt had settled which became known as "Witt Township." Anna Maria continued to live next door to her husband's original cabin until her death in 1893; then she moved into her own house within what would become known as "Witt Village". Anna Maria's sister—Margaret McNaught—moved into Witt Village soon after her sister’s death and began operating a bakery adjacent to Margaret’s house until 1906 when Mrs. McNaught sold her business to Harry Sievers who operated it until 1957 when it passed through ownership change hands again before being donated by Mr. Sievers to Holy Cross Catholic School which operates it today as Holy Cross Academy). All these initial settlers were followed over time by more families including those from Canada who came through the area during World War I for military service; then more families arrived during World War II; finally, many people returned after war ended but kept their homes here because they found agriculture interesting or because they wanted some privacy for their families while living away from home during wartime shortages caused by enemy bombing raids that took place throughout much of America . Garden City, Michigan is a small town located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 745 at the 2000 census. Garden City was founded on April 15, 1824 by James K. Butler and others as Garden Township. It became a city on December 1, 1907. The first inhabitants of Garden City were the Hurons who lived nearby for centuries. One of the first white settlers in Garden City was John Purdy who arrived in 1827 from Boston, Massachusetts via Detroit and Marquette Bayou. He built a log cabin near what is now Main Street and named it Purdy's Ford after his father-in-law, General David Dixon (1780-1854). The first post office in Garden City was established in 1830, but it closed in 1836 because of lack of customers. A new post office called Greenville opened on May 10, 1840 and continued to serve until 1861 when it changed its name to Townshend due to objections from other villages that had been established within what is now known as Cadillac County since that time as part of the Great Lakes District under then-Governor George Biddle (1801-1868). In 1849 local farmers formed a village association which chose the name "Garden City." The original land comprising present day Garden City was donated by Captain Isaac Page (1796-1864) during an effort to create open space west of Detroit where he could farm improvements he had made over many years while living near Grand Rapids. On October 8, 1850 President James Kapp signed legislation creating Lansingburgh Township with a population of seventy five people including thirteen women and four children who were born into slavery there; this act later became known as microcosm for how society would change generally throughout all levels across America once slavery began disappearing completely starting with southern states like Georgia onward during this time period eventually leading ultimately to abolitionism throughout most regions within North America circa 1865 when formally ended by Northern state laws resulting in slave states becoming free following victory at Gettysburg two years earlier
