The community began as a small village named "Frisco" on the bank of the Muskegon River, but it soon outgrew its original boundaries and became a town in 1871. In 1925, the name was changed to Fraser after Sir John A. Fraser, 4th Baronet (1813-1890), an English gentleman who had played an important role in helping to found Canada's Confederation and become its first Prime Minister. The current name honors Frasers' forefathers, who were influential Scottish settlers from Banagher on Loch Lomond that arrived in what is nowMuskegon County in 1800 and laid down their claim to land east of Mackinac Island. In 1836, they organized what would become the Muskegon Heights Land Company to purchase 640 acres (247 hectares) north of present-day Fraser from Chief Joseph Chippewa for $1 per acre ($140 today). This land later served as basis for Township No. 1, which was created in 1871 when portions of present-day Muskegon Heights were annexed by Fraser township; and finally Township No. 2 was formed on January 1st 1907 when all but 3/4ths of present day Livingston Heights were annexed by Fraser township following a referendum held that year among residents living within those two townships only! In 1925, following World War I and during which most people worked outside the home or farmsteads themselves due to wartime rationing, many farmers decided to move into towns because there were more opportunities for job security with larger populations residing close together than back home where families still rotated crop production and raised livestock including cows, pigs and horses on their properties like those used today by some 50 percent+ resident households! With this migration came increased commercial activity along with transportation improvements including truck traffic moving goods closer together becoming available through newroads such as US 131 which ran through downtown Frazer making it easier for farmers to bring their products into town directly while also providing access to larger markets farther away - much like our modern day highways! Today's mix of older brick buildings dating back over 100 years alongside newer Shotgun houses seen here & there throughout rural communities across America speaks volumes about both our pioneer ancestors as well as how times have changed since then... just another example why villages continue to thrive despite difficult challenges – something we can learn from!

In 1857, Jno. Ewing settled here and built a mill on the river. In 1865, John Sibley opened his own store in what became known as Sibleyville (now part of Livingston). In 1884, Wm. Fenton established a sawmill on the river near present-day Albion Heights; it operated until 1916. Alexander Sutherland bought the mill in 1916 and continued to operate it until its closure by federal government regulations in 1949. The mill building still stands today and is used as a library facility by Fraser Community College District #534A/534B.. During World War II, Fort Homer JNAC was located at nearby Hoxie Park across from current day Albion Heights along with other military installations such as Camp Dennison/Fort Nite Army National Guard Post#2701 (later post number 3489) and Lewis Field AF&G Plant.#6161 (later PPJ#2006-0013). It should be noted that due to its proximity to major metropolitan areas during wartime there were large numbers of civilians living within easy commuting distance who worked inside or around these installations conducting essential functions for war effort without being classified as combatants or enemy aliens
