The first post office was established in 1824, and it operated until 1875. In 1902, the town had a population of 350 people and it grew to 2,000 by 1910. By 1920, it had reached 4,000 people and it remains today at 5,591 residents. The economy of Fraser is based primarily on agriculture with some manufacturing scattered throughout the village as well.

The first buildings were log shacks with two stories each that served as homes for men and their families until around 1920 when a dam was constructed upstream and water began flowing into town from it. At first, people used traditional techniques such as boiling water or soap making to cleanse themselves before going out into the community which was called "the end." There are three historical museums located within or near Fraserburgh - the history museum (founded in 1921), American History Museum (opened in 1957) and Iron Age Village Museum (opened in 1984). There are also several recreation areas including an ice rink, golf course, beachfront park, riverwalk and more.
Fraser is located in the lower Peninsula of Michigan, on the east bank of the St. Clair River. The town was founded by James Fraser in 1814 and was named after him. It was incorporated as a village in 1825 and became a city in 1868. In 1903, it adopted a new constitution and became an autonomous county within the Michigan state system.
