Fraser, Michigan is a small town in the upper Peninsula of Michigan. The community was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1847. The first post office was established in Fraser in 1850. In 1865, the town became a village and was renamed Fraser Junction. In 1928, the name change to Fraser after George Fraser, the first Prime Minister of Canada. At present, there are only a few residences remaining from when the town had over 100 residents. The origins of the people who founded Fraser date back to 1847 when Scots-Irish immigrants came to America and began farming in what is now Fraser Township. The first post office was established at this location on October 7th of that year. This outpost served as an important center for trade with local Native American tribes and travelers alike due to its quick access to water resources and easy transportation available through boats on the Mackinac River. In 1865, following Lewis & Clark’s Expedition which explored much of what is now Michigan, settlers were attracted to this new land by its vast natural resources including coal and oil shale located within miles of their homes. As early as 1868, plans were being made for a schoolhouse and general store in what would eventually become known as “Fraser Junction”. By 1870, there were already several churches operating within the boundaries of today’s Fraser Township; all serving various denominations including Methodism (founded in 1793), Presbyterian (1802), Congregational (1811), Roman Catholic (1858) and Baptist (founded 1792). As more settlers arrived into this newly acquired land they interacted with both Native Americans and European colonists who helped organize their territory into counties during this time period known as “Censusland” which included much of what is now Michigan as well as Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota Today many descendants still live within these boundaries holding onto some aspects of their Scottish heritage such as Gaelic language instruction or historical festivals celebrating traditional Scottish life etc.. In 1928, following World War II., Canadian Prime Minister Sir John Aird announced his intention to create two new provinces – Ontario North Shore – based on population numbers provided by census data collected between 1921-1924 from western Ontario including parts now known as Manitoba & Saskatchewan – thus creating British Columbia once again! With no other jurisdictions available for incorporation into either province upon announcement Frasers Tavern/Dockyard became one of only a few organizations chosen by Mr Aird himself notables such as Judge J H Longstreet who also served on his Privy Council! Upon incorporation into British Columbia Frasers tavern/dockyard continued operate until it closed down in 1984 however some items still remain currently stored inside our current building! It should be noted that while most aspects associated with frontier life have passed away since then most artifacts related thereto do not!!
