However, most people continue to live here today thanks to its supportive community spirit and vibrant economy!

In 1924, when statehood for Michigan was pending, local officials decided that they would become part of new Grand Rapids–Wolverine metropolitan area if it were granted official status as a separate state entity within Michigan; this occurred on July 1, 1925. On December 12, 1927, voters in Fraser approved becoming one of only two cities within Grand Rapids–Wolverine to remain unincorporated after it became an autonomous municipality under state law (the other being Holland). The first mayor since incorporation was John Ewart Macdonald (1927-1929), who also served as City Councilman for 25 years and Mayor from 1951-1959 before stepping down due to health reasons; he was replaced by Harry Shearer (1959-1966) who also served as Mayor from 1966-1978 before retiring due to age and illness; his son David Shearer succeeded him in 1978 and has been Mayor since then. With rapid growth throughout the 1990s following World War II suburban flight into central Detroit combined with advances made within municipal government through legislation passed by the legislature such as the creation of zoning regulations which limited suburban building without prior approval – all while maintaining separate service levels for each community – ongoing council Oversight has been critical for ensuring continuing public support for downtown/campus complex infrastructure investments despite evolving economic conditions across various municipalities within or adjacent to Grand Rapids–Wolverine Township.. As recently as 2000 most residents identified themselves primarily as blue collar workers employed either locally or remotely through companies based outside town including: Bell Helicopter Textron Aviation LP helicopter manufacturing company located just outside town limits over ten miles away at Mott Air Force Base (now Lockheed Martin Corp.), AutoZone Inc., WardsAuto Parts & Service LLC., Coleman Tire & Rubber Co., ITT Corporation, Mohawk Paper Products Inc., Duncan Hennigan Restaurants - now Darden Restaurants - once part Of JCPenney
Fraser was founded in 1853 by George Fraser, a prominent citizen of the town. The first store in the town was built on Main Street. In 1861, the town post office was moved to its present location on First Street. The townsite changed hands several times and remained vacant for many years before it was purchased by the Township of Fraser in 1922. The first school in Fraser opened in 1923 and trustees decided to build a new school on property donated by local farmer Homer Hodge. The new school served students from kindergarten through eighth grade until 1975 when it was replaced with a high school which currently serves grades 9-12. The township building burned down in 1951 but reconstruction began immediately and ended only 4 years later when the original Township Hall also caught fire. The current Township hall was dedicated on October 20, 1957 after 10 years of construction including an addition that doubled as a gymnasium and library.
