The present day downtown core of Flint is home to several large companies including AIG Inc., United States Steel Corporation (USSC), General Motors Company (GM), Helios&Sonix Corporation (HLC), Phelps Dodge Chemical Co., Chrysler LLC (Chrysler) among others In recent years other major employers include Mount Clemens Academy for Boys High School District #2 which moved into new facilities adjacent to downtown after decades languishing outside what had once been their campus; Renaissance Technologies LLC which opened their new headquarters next door; MDM Ford Motor Company/Lincoln Mercury Division which closed their Dearborn Assembly Plant effective August 15th 2016 due to lack of investment - this leaves only Mack truck production continuing operations here currently through DTE Energy’s 9antom Truck plant located about 5 miles away across I-75 from Downtown There are plans underway for another large facility planned for nearby Graytown but those remain uncertain at this time
