On February 13th it was announced that Flint would be given financial assistance from both USAID’s Global Food Security Initiative (GFSI)and Ford Foundation’s Health Equity Initiative (HEI). These funds will be used for technical assistance such as data collection, financing projects throughout Flint including access to clean water infrastructure, health promotion programs targeting lowincome communities and young families especially those impacted by lead poisoning.,

Following World War II, Flint declined to maintain its high level of production and fell victim to economic slump and social unrest that led to violence and civil strife. In 1972, Flint merged with Detroit to form what is now called Michigan City-Flint County
