Gun targets were a popular pastime in Ferndale, Michigan. The sport was enjoyed by adults and children alike and often took place at local shooting ranges. Gun Targets are now rare occurrences in Ferndale, but they remain an important part of the community's history. The first gun target to be erected in Ferndale was a wooden structure known as the “Red Cross” which was built by Mrs. A.L. Goodyear in 1903. The target was donated by Mr. Hargrave and it stood on the east side of Main Street near the old Post Office until 1954 when it was moved to its current location on Third Street. In 1907, a new steel target called the “Tower” was erected at the north end of town by J.F Bassett Sr., founder of Bassett Manufacturing Company Limited (later Bassett Tool & Instrument). The tower is still standing today and can be seen from many parts of town including downtown Ferndale and Crocker RoadCarnegie Museum of Art located across from Itanium Park Elementary School (now White Flint Middle School). In 1922, another new steel target called the “Arkansas Razorback”was erected at Pinto Drive south of town by Hargrave Industries Incorporated (later changed to Hargrave Manufacturing Company Limited) for use at their local rifle range located adjacent to Itanium Park Elementary School (now White Flint Middle School). Basset Tool & Instrument also operated a small papertarget factory located off Highway 21 east of town which produced custom made gunsights for various rifle ranges throughout Michigan during the 1930s and 1940s. The last NRA sanctioned gunTarget event held in Ferndale occurred on Saturday night, October 17th, 1974 when 24 participants from throughout northwest Michigan participated in a shotgun match sponsored by Big Lake Rifle Range located southeast of town along US- 12/Hwy 49W . This event marked the end of an era as Gun Targets were no longer routinely hosted within our township – though they continue to be celebrated through annual tournaments organized by various groups throughout our community!

There is no set rule on how to aim a rifle when shooting at a target, but the general strategy is to hold the rifle straight down and use your sights to align the target with the crosshairs.
The Ferndale Gun Club was founded in 1892. It is the oldest gun club in Michigan. The club has been meets every other month since then.
Ferndale is a small town in Muskegon County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lansing-East Lansing-Holland, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. Ferndale is located on the western edge of Muskegon County and east of Grand Rapids. The first people to live in what is now Ferndale wereAMC Indians who came from Canada in 1824. A post office was established here in 1828, and by 1840 there were 5 buildings in the town. The first store was built by George Sutherlin. In 1851, Ferndale had a schoolhouse and 6 stores. In 1865, another post office opened and ferndale became a village. That year also saw the founding of the Methodist Episcopal Church and First Baptist Church here which remain active to this day as both churches have over 400 memberships today! By 1870, there were 38 homes in Ferndalese Village but only 9 remained until it merged with Holland Township on April 14th, 1903! The first tractor dealership opened up shop right hereabouts back around 1923 when Roy Fenton started importing tractors into America from Europe! Ford dealers followed suit soon after and these days you can find just about anything you could want or need while driving down I-94 heading east! One thing that's stayed constant throughout all these years though has been this amazing cheese factory called Bendix which churns out some amazing cheese items like Boursin cream cheese and Gouda! How did they get their start? Well back in 1907 John Bendix founded what would eventually become Amalgamated Cement Company here making cement for bridges and other construction projects! And don't forget about all those delicious Hormel chili dogs we love so much either...these bad boys are definitely not from anywhere else folks! Ferndale, Michigan was once a thriving town with a population of over 10,000. The town was founded in 1834 by Nicholas Ferndale and his wife Anna. The ferndales were farmers who grew corn and beans. In 1849, the town had a population of around 15 people and began to grow rapidly thanks to new transportation options such as the Erie Railroad. By 1870, Ferndale had reached its present day size with a population of over 50 people. The community continued to grow until it reached its peak in the 1920s when it had a population of 100 people. After reaching its peak, the community began to decline due to various reasons including World War II and then the Great Depression. However, despite this decline, Ferndale still retains some of its former glory including being one of the most heavily populated towns in Michigan.
Ferndale, Michigan was one of the first towns in the state of Michigan to be founded. The town was named for General Nathan Ferndale who fought in the War of 1812. The town was incorporated on December 1, 1837. In 1868, Ferndale became a city and it has since grown into a major metropolitan area with over 100,000 residents.
