In 1881, Fenton businessman and local politician George W. Smith erected the first scopes in the city. At that time, there were only a few telescopes available to the general public, and they were mostly used by scholars and scientists. In 1925, Fenton's first high school was built nearby, making it possible for people of all ages to view objects in space with scopes. By 1933, Fenton had its own observatory, which became one of the largest in Michigan. The city also began providing free telescope programming to residents through its amateur telescope club. Today, Fenton is home to at least six professional observatories as well as several hundred amateur astronomers who use telescopes for research and observation.

Fenton is a small town in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2010 census, the population was 4,812. The community is named after General James Fenton, who fought in the Mexican-American War and served as president of Mexico City before coming to America. The area that makes up today's Fenton was first settled by German immigrants in 1837. In 1868, when Detroit became a city, many refugees from Indiana moved to Fenton because it was then considered a safe haven for Catholics fleeing religious persecution there. The town has been around since 1836 when Alexander Dunlap established a post office at what is now called Dunlap Heights on the east side of town. The name "Fenton" came about as someone realized they were living on an Indian trading trail that ran through this part of Michigan and Illinois. When General James Fenton fought during the Mexican-American War in1846 he took part in what is now known as Battle of Palo Alto which resulted in more than twenty deaths for both sides and destroyed over 200 homes near what is now downtown Fenton. In 1870, Reverend John Fitzgerald founded Sacred Heart Catholic Church here and built one of only two churches west of Detroit - originally located on Second Street between Goodrich Avenue and Woodward Avenue but moved to its present location in 1909 due to funding problems with St John's Cathedral across Woodward Avenue from SPCA (later Target). Over time other religious organizations have also been founded here including First United Methodist Church (1948), Holy Name Catholic Parish (1983), Korean Buddhist temple (2006), Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall (2007) and Lutheran church (2009). This mix has allowed for some interesting cross denominational congregations such as: Episcopalians/Anglicans; Methodists/Corellians; Roman Catholics/Protestants; Baptists/Methodists; Presbyterians/Anglicans; Jewish people who attend services at Sacred Heart Catholic Church or First United Methodist Church while others worship at other faiths' temples or chapels within walking distance like Presbyterian church or African American Baptist church respectively. Today there are still quite a few independent businesses operating here including several fabric stores, hardware stores, Internet cafes, an auto dealership etcetera but most everyone seems content working within larger businesses like Sears Holdings Corporation or Dick's Sporting Goods Incorporated though there are occasional attempts by individual entrepreneurs to start their own business ventures too - something that typically fails commercially given how restrictive local government regulations can be about starting new companies even if they're not affiliated with any specific religion or political affiliation.

Fenton is a small town in the Kalamazoo County, Michigan, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskegon Heights Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Fenton was John Fenton in 1836. He built a cabin on what is now State Road 706 north of town. In 1838, Daniel Boone and his party traveled through Fenton on their way to survey the area for a possible Indian Removal Treaty settlement. They were met by John Fenton who welcomed them and showed them around his cabin and farmstead where they stayed for two nights before continuing their journey. In 1861, when Michigan became an independent state, citizens of Muskegon Heights voted to secede from Kalamazoo County and form their own municipality with its own government and school system. The towns of Muskegon Heights (then known as Dearborn), Fenton, East Lansing, Strykerville and other smaller villages soon followed suit. In 1875, residents of Muskegon Heights merged with those of nearby Iron Mountain to form one new municipality called "Fenton". The first post office in Fenton was established in 1865; it operated under the name "Dearborn." A post office move to downtown Muskegon Heights was authorized by vote on May 5th of that year but never occurred becauseistorians thought it would be against city zoning laws which prohibited buildings taller than ten stories without special permits from being erected within city limits. A fire destroyed most of downtownMuskegon Heights on November 2nd 1902; however firefighters managed to save several businesses including theuddenly reopened Dearborn Bank & Trust Building which had been closed for years due to damage caused by previous flames). After this fire many people began calling Fenton "DowntownMuskegon Heights" or simply "UMH." On October 21st 1907 Wm Buchanan donated land at what is now State Road 706 southeast of town for a local agricultural college named Michigan Agricultural College (now University Microfilms). The cornerstone for the building – also named after Buchanan – was laid on October 25th 1910 by Mayor J C Blackwell Jr.. The college opened its doors in September 1912 with only twelve students enrolled; however enrollment exploded over time due to various factors such as World War I and II shortages of faculty members available inmuskegon heights)University Microfilms today continues as one of three public research universities located within Gratiot Community College District No 8
