In 1824, Peter Haines purchased land south of present-day Fenton from Joseph Woodward and built his house there. A post office called Hainesville was established here in 1827 (it lasted until 1840). Fenton's first school opened in 1828 when James McGill first taught children grades one through four in a log cabin on Big Creek Road near where Main Street now crosses it. By 1830, three schools existed: one offering instruction from May to September each year; another open only during summer months; and still others operated intermittently or not at all due to financial difficulties or lack of students/staff members willing or able to teach at high school levels simultaneously! In 1830 also came a sawmill operating off Big Creek Road between present-day Maple Avenue and West Central Avenue – this mill helped power local streetcars that brought people watermelons from Wabash Valley upriver until 1865 when they started bringing passengers along Woodward Avenue (now US Highway 24) downtown! The town started receiving mail via stagecoach service starting November 1st1829 when Timothy Warner took delivery of a package addressed “To Alltown” at his home on East Main Street #2 just north of where current-day US Highway 12 intersects with East Main Street #1 today! On December 3rd 1830 local citizen Nathan Smith delivered mail for “Governor Harrison” stopin' at Grosse Pointe Farms on his way back downriver from Battle Creek! Municipal services were available by 1860 when lumberman Elisha Abbott installed an oil lamp over his doorbell providing illumination inside town hall during evenings hours!. A blacksmith shop opened soon afterwards located near Church & Maple Streets west side . . . Electricity arrived here February 15th1862 courtesy(?)of Hiram Lodge No 3 Daughters Of Temperance working under contract with Mr.(?) Edison who wired our village well thru runs @ $3 per month & chargeable @ 10 cents per foot

In 1886, a second local high school – also called High School #1 – replaced its predecessor on State Street which still serves as its namesake today. In 1938, through cooperation with other townships within Grand Rapids County, Fenton established itself as an independent municipality with its own government under mayor/council form of government although it continued to be governed by county officials until 1975 when all functions were transferred over to municipal control under then Mayor Melvin Ladds along with City Council members Al Saunders (R), Joe Barnett (D) and Norma Cavanaugh (L). One important event that occurred during this time period may have been Fenton's incorporation into the United States after World War II when much needed housing supplies came through thanks to post-war GI recruitment drives grassroots organizations such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving founded jointly with local businesses like Ford’s Rouge factory located just outside town limits bordering Detroit; those families soon moved into newly developed subdivisions located just northwest of town boundaries inside present day Hollandale Township while Dearborn Heights neighbors eastward continued contributing little beyond providing access to grocery stores & schools across I-94 & Farmington Hills streets well beyond their borders for generations thereafter known collectively as "The Strip". Even though incorporated into the United States (& taxed accordingly), residents continue identify themselves primarily locally throughout all levels including elected officials - something not typically seen in more recent annexations or reincorporations elsewhere throughout Michigan especially since 1990s; indeed some feel this unique cultural identifier has helped keep things "authentic" even within rapidly changingGrandRapids& neighboring communities
