However, due to boundary changes following development within Van Wyck Township subsequent to its creation - including adjacent Washtenaw Heights - only portions of Fenton were incorporated as part of Van Wyck Township until 1907; all surrounding countryside remained unincorporated until then.. In 1860s & 1870s various industries sprang up around town including brickmaking; tanning; brewing beer & whiskey; papermaking; wagon manufacturing etc.; however many closed during these years such as Tannery #1 which stopped producing eggs in 1898 & Paper Mill #2 which closed in 1904). In 1814, the United States acquired this area from Great Britain as part of the Treaty of Ghent. The town was founded by George Fenton in 1823 as an agricultural settlement on land he had bought from the Indians. He named it after his father-in-law, John Fenton, also an early settler here. The first store opened here in 1829, and for many years this was one of the most important businesses in the town. George Fenton was killed in 1834 while operating his farm near present day Midland. His son George W. Fenton continued operations until his death in 1907. Although still small at that time, Fenton rapidly grew into a thriving community during its early years; by 1850 it had a school, church, Masonic lodge and two stores. By 1900 it boasted 10 businesses and over 100 residents! The community experienced numerous growth spurts during its early days – such as when farming became more mechanized and tractors became available; when timber became available for building; and when new transportation methods emerged such as automobiles and locomotives! In recent decades however, much progress has been made to improve living conditions within the community including increases in education funding (which has helped stimulate economic development), access to health care options (includingSeveral major hospitalizations have taken place within ten miles of downtown since 2001), &&&&&&&&&&& improvements to infrastructure including widening streets which have made them easier to navigate for pedestrians & cyclists (! ), &&&&’and construction on several large new buildings which will help provide more space for commerce & services inside & outside of town
