Farmington Hills, Michigan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the seat of Wayne County. The population was $92 million as of 2019, making it the most populous city in Wayne County. The city is located in eastern Detroit metropolitan area and is part of the Detroit–Warren–Dearborn Combined Statistical Area (CSA). It is one of the fastest-growing cities in America, with a median real estate sale price increase from 2018 to 2019 of 24%. The first permanent settler in Farmington Hills was John Haggerty, who arrived on July 7, 1837. He named his community after his birthplace in Scotland – farmin' hils (a hill) being Scots for "homes". By 1840, there were 12 settlers living in Farmington Hills. In 1847, Samuel Morse joined Haggerty and other early pioneers at what would become the town center of Farmington Hills. Morse ran a tavern called The Oracle until he donated land to build a schoolhouse on Euclid Avenue which became known as Griggs School House. In 1865, Hiram Sibley founded Harper's Ferry Paper Products Company on Main Street east of Griggs School House; this company still operates today under multiple names including Sibley Paper Products Company and National Paper Supply Co., Inc.. In 1886, Agnes Bickford established what would be known as Arsenal Park across from Griggs School House; this park served as an open space for residents to play football, basketball and baseball during summers until 1924 when it was annexed by Farmington Hills! An important figure associated with early Farmington Hills was banker Cyrus Vance who served two terms as Mayor from 1901-1903 before becoming Governor of New York City where he died in 1912 at age 84 years old! During Vance's time as mayor resided Artemus Wardwell who also served two terms on City Council representing District 2B which included portions now within Dearborn Heights and Wayne Township; Artemus later moved to Flint where he founded Baird Glass Workshops Incorporated active until my day!
Farmington Hills is a city in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 25,624 at the 2010 census. The name comes from the nearby farmstead of Farmington and the Hixson family's ownership of land there beginning in 1837. Farmington Hills is located on the northwest side of Detroit. The first permanent settler in what is now Farmington Hills was John Hixson, who arrived in 1837. He built a cabin on land he purchased from David Hixson. In 1850, James Minto settled in what is now Farmington Hills and began operating a grocery store and post office there. By 1860, many other settlers had moved into Farmington Hills including Henry Ford, his brother Edward Ford and their families. In 1870, Wm’s Park was opened as one of downtown Detroit’s first parks with 420 acres (160 hectares). It served as a recreation ground for residents and visitors alike until it closed its doors to the public in 1921 due to budget cuts by local government officials. In that year, the city acquired another 400 acres (200 hectares) near Gratiot Avenue and Cass Avenue which became Forest Lawn Cemetery.
