Escanaba is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Escanaba County. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern side of the Mackinac Bridge, which connects Lake Superior to Lower Michigan. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Escanaba was made by French fur traders in 1794. The area that would become Escanaba was part of Green Bay Township until 1824 when it became part of Escanaba County. In 1834, a post office called "Escanaba" was established and remained in operation until 1861. In 1868, an act to create a new county for Upper Michigan was passed by the US Congress and then signed into law by President Andrew Johnson. The new county included all of present-day Escanaba County as well as portions of Macomb and Wayne counties east of Big Rapids River. The Act provided for a courthouse at Kalamazoo and for elections to be held at various other locales throughout the county including Escanaba Township (now part of Battle Creek). In 1907, following approval from the US Senate, Governor John Engler approved plans for a dam across Muskegon River upstream from present-day Scranton Township in order to generate electricity for local use and also provide access to waterpower for irrigation purposes downstream. Construction began onsite in 1908 and completed two years later; this dam formed one half of today's Mackinac Bridge which links Lake Superior to Lower Michigan via Scranton Township

During World War I, American Armory Corporation produced 1 million barrels of ammunition for the war effort. After the war, American Armory Corporation became known as Browning Arms Company. In 1958, Browning Arms Company merged with Remington Arms Company to form Sturm Ruger & Co., Incorporated (SRI). SRI currently produces firearms including revolvers, pistols and shotguns under three brands: Ruger®, Sig® and Smith & Wesson® brands.

Escanaba, Michigan is a small town in Muskegon County, Michigan. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Muskegon County. The first European to visit Escanaba was Capt. George Washington in 1795 while on his way from Detroit to St. Clair County. He named it after Jean-Baptiste-Jacques Escanaba, a French explorer and fur trader who had visited the area in 1763. From 1810 until 1815, Escanaba was part of Rupert's Indian Territory under the jurisdiction of the United States government. In 1815, it became part of Michigan as part of the Treaty of Grosse Pointe with Great Britain; Canada took over Rupert's Indian Territory two years later. In 1836, when Act No. 3 of that year createdMuskegon County, its first Supervisor was Augustus Wenzell (1802-1860). At that time there were only seven townships in Muskegon County: White Cloud, Clinton Township (now Cadillac), East Lansing Township (now Isabella Township), Northville Township (now Traverse City), Canandaigua Township (now Genesee), East Lansing Township (now mail order services center) and Scio Village (later village). The first courthouse in Escanaba was built on what is now State Road 9 east side near where US Highway 12 crosses from Muskegon into Ottawa County; it served as court house and jail for about twenty years before being replaced by a new courthouse built in 1911 which still stands today on State Road 9 east side opposite First National Bank building across from Park View Cemetery . The old courthouse burned down on December 6th 1912 but was rebuilt and reopened as the county jail for about ten months before closing again because lack of funds kept it open past its original expiration date; like many other local institutions during this time period it also experienced financial difficulties that led to its closure . On November 15th 1907 an act providing for township organization withinMuskegon Counties passed both houses with no opposition by either party; however Senate Bill 283 failed to become law because President Grover Cleveland vetoed it three days later simply because he did not want any more townships formed without his signature than he already had authorizations for through Executive Order No 15811 which specifically authorized Townships 10 through 14 withinMuskegon Co.; all sixteen charter townships were established following this bill though only nine were actually organized until 1940 when township 22was added to make up for lost territory caused by Washtenaw/Lansing split . Escanaba played an important role during both World Wars with military installations such as Camp Dodge located here from 1917 until 1919 during World War I while Fort Gratiot becoming operational almost immediately afterwards during World War II .....As late as 1984 most people living here listed their occupation as "agriculture" or "trade". However since then things have started changing with more businesses moving into town such as tech companies such as Google and Facebook ....There has been development especially around downtown where several high rise buildings have been constructed including One Commerce Center , Loews Marquette Place Hotel & Casino and even a new football stadium ..... currently much work is being done along SR 9 between Third Street NE & Fourth Street NE just east of town due to encroachments by multiple businesses along that stretch ......The future looks bright for Escanaba with continued growth in business opportunities thanks to technology companies such as Googleand Facebook ......However some residents are concerned about potential displacement effects resulting from these types OfDevelopment
