The history of gun sights in Escanaba, Michigan began with the opening of the first Gunsight shop in 1892. This business was located on Second Avenue and Mother Street. The first gun sights were crude devices that were used to help shooters aim their firearms. In 1924, the first full-time gun sight shop was opened by J.H. Barker and his son, John H. Barker Jr.. The business operated out of a small building on Third Avenue near Grand River.[1] In 1955, Gunsight Corporation was formed by Jay Fenton and Raymond Klinkhammer to sell precision firearm sights and accessories. The company moved its operations to a larger facility on Fourth Avenue in 1957. In 1978, Gunsight Corporation merged with American Precision Incorporated (APS) to form American Precision Incorporations (APPI). APPI continued to operate as an independent company until 1995 when it merged with Nissin Co., Ltd., the largest firearms Manufacturer in Japan[2]. Gunsight Corporation manufactured rifle sights from 1892 until 1954 when they became part of American Precision Incorporated (APPI).

TheEscanaba Gun Sight Company was founded in 1868 and soon began manufacturing sights for artillery and other firearms. The company continued to produce sights until 1893, when it merged with the American Rifleman Armory in Escanaba. Escanaba is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Escanaba Township. The population was 46,543 at the 2010 census. It is the fourth-largest city in Michigan, after Detroit, Flint, and Macomb County's unincorporated community of Romulus. The area now known as Escanaba was long part of what was known as Green Bay Township, part of Ottawa County. On December 12, 1837, it became a separate town under the name of "Escanaba". In 1868 it became an administrative center for Washtenaw County when all but its eastern border with Muskegon were combined into that county. On May 20, 1872, it lost its status as an administrative center when Lansing took over responsibility from Washtenaw County; however on October 1st it regained this status when Lansing annexed most of Muskegon to its jurisdiction. On November 3rd 1860 Nathaniel Lyon homesteaded land east of present-day Espanaba on Wabash River near what is now Forest Park Boulevard and Lapeer Road; he named his settlement "Lyon's Landing", after himself (and later Lyon Township). Houghton & Ottawa Countia together have 84 square miles... Inland Watershipping Association has two harbors open seasonally for cruises up or down Shiawassee River only seven miles distant! And last we know there may be more coming! In 1909 Shreveport annexed portions east and southeastof Escanaban creating new cities: Shreveport proper within Orleans Parish; Natchitoches within Chatham Parish; LaGrange within Cass Parish; while still others form partsof New Orleans City Limits: Jefferson Davis City Limit including Deepwater Cove beside Hammonds BeachroeBayou Teche Springs Pointe visible approachable via dune walk or accessible by boat acrossbayou Teche National Wildlife Refuge extending inland several hundred yards bordered by Louisiana State Line

Steel production began in 1851 when Augustus Condon secured a patent for his new blast furnaces which he named the "Condon Iron Works". This led to the founding of other companies such as the "Iron Mountain Steel Company" (IMCo) in 1865 and "Detroit Iron Works" (DEW) in 1876. Escanaba experienced some significant changes during World War II: portions of downtown were destroyed by bombing raids from Japan; nevertheless, there remain many reminders of this time including Soldier's Memorial Park across Dearborn Street from City Hall where soldiers who died during World War II are buried; as well as several smaller parks throughout town which also serve as memorials to those lost during that conflict including Haggerty Park near First National Bank; Veterans Memorial Park on Waterfront Drive overlooking Lake Huron; Douglas Road Bridge over Big Rapids River Preserve which served as a staging area for Allied troops while they crossed into Russia during Operation Overlord; Stroud Field Airfield located east of town which provided air support to ground forces engaged fighting Nazi Germany
In 1872, Escanaba was founded on the banks of the Muskegon River by a group of men led by Captain John L. Burt. The town grew rapidly, and in 1878 it became the county seat of Escanaba County. In 1899, Escanaba was incorporated as a city and continued to grow rapidly until World War II when it experienced a rapid decline in population. After the war,Escanaba resumed its growth rate but experienced anotherDecline in Population during the late 1990s due to an increase in crime rates which has since tapered off. Today,Escanaba is known for its recreational opportunities such as swimming and fishing; as well as its cultural significance having been home to several major league baseball teams from 1951-2002 including the Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Indians, and Chicago White Sox.
