In 1903, President Theodore Roosevelt dedicated Midland Park Cemetery in memory of his wife Eleanor Roosevelt at its site across from White House on Michigan Avenue NW (now Pembina Highway NW). Mrs. Roosevelt had been buried there since her husband's death on April 12, 1901; he had been interred at West Point Cemetery near New York City before that date but moved to Washington D.C., where he died six weeks after leaving office on April 14th due to congestive heart failure caused by overwork and poor health habits while president

Escanaba, Michigan is a small town located in the Mackinac county seat of Escanaba,Michigans second most populous city. The population of Escanaba was 20,898 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest city in Michigan by population. The first Europeans to visit what is now Escanaba were French voyageurs who explored the upper Great Lakes region during the 17th century. The town was founded in 1827 by three brothers from Sault Ste Marie, Canada - John Prentice, Gideon Haigh and James McGillis - while they were on their way to join Genesee & Ontario Railroad. They named their new community after Cadillac (Quebec), where they had been living for some time. The original millinery shop in downtown Escanaba was built by Anna Ladd and her husband George Lincoln back in 1827-28 as an addition to their store building located on Third Street east of Main Street which had been built about 1800 as a frame house with two stories and a basement. The business operated until it burned down in 1865; however, Gertrude Ladd continued to operate it as a dry Goods Store until 1886 when she moved it across Third Street into her daughter's home which still stands today (see photo). In 1871-72, Alexander Graham Bell visited Escanaba while on his way southward along the Mackinac Straits on his third trip as President of United States; he stayed at Gertrude Ladd's home for one night before continuing his journey southward. In that year also, John Fenton established an oil well near present day Washtenaw Avenue and North Main Street; this well became known as Fentonville Oil Field because it supplied oil lamps used by farmers throughout western Michigan during the 1870s and 1880s. In 1903-04 Draconian Storm damage destroyed much of downtownEscanaba including several blocks of Second Streets between Fourth and Fifth Avenues after severe winds knocked over trees from high pressure systems off the Canadian Rockies; however no major injuries or loss occurred due to this storm event since all buildings were quickly rebuilt without any loss or damage from subsequent storms that year although some foundations remaining from earlier storms did remain extant until 1979 when they were destroyed during routine demolition operations reducinghistoric Central Business District mall Complex Between Fourth/Fifth avenues near current day State Fairgrounds owner could use them for other purposes but decided not to) When prohibition began locally many businesses closed early associated with local transportation issues caused by increased fares rather than prohibition tax increase making alcoholic beverages unavailable for purchase despite numerous offers made byBootlegger Owned businesses refusing service citing "personal reasons" later repealed statewide alcohol laws providing public transportation available 24 hours per day within legal limits
In 1837, the first stores in Escanaba were established by John P. Dunn and his partner, Jonathan M. Caldwell. The town rapidly grew and soon boasted a variety of businesses including retail, manufacturing, and agricultural services. By 1860, Escanaba had become one of the most important cities in the state of Michigan. In that year, it was renamed to Lansing after James K. Lansing who served as the governor of Michigan at the time. In 1871, Lansing became the capital city of Michigan with a population of over 100,000 people. The city years saw great growth with new buildings being erected along State Street including the Lansing Municipal Building which still stands today.
