Eastpointe, Michigan is a town and unincorporated community in Muskegon County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,858 at the 2010 census. Eastpointe is located on the east side of Muskegon Lake and is part of the Grand Rapids–Muskegon Metropolitan Statistical Area. It began as a small log settlement on the banks of Muskegon River in 1837. The settlement grew to include a Methodist mission in 1848, a post office in 1850, and an agricultural village called Indian Rocks in 1871. It obtained its current name from its founder, Isaac Eastman (1814-86), who named it for his home point on the edge of Muskegon Lake where he built his first farmstead. Eastpointe has been largely unaffected by recent changes to the region due to its location within commuting distance of major metropolitan areas such as Lansing or Detroit. Its small size means that there are few businesses or residents who have long memories of local events or history. By 1865, the town had a population of 350 people and it included three stores and a jail. In 1870, the east side of town was platted and became known as "The Annex". In 1872, an act to create Detroit County was passed by the Michigan Legislature. East pointe became part of Detroit County and it had a population of 1,000 people. On July 1, 1893, most of eastern Detroit County - including East Pointe - were added to MetroDetroit as part of the city's annexation into Detroit.
