Eastpointe is a small town in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census and it is part of the Grand Rapids–Wenatchee–East Lansing, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located on the east side of Mackinac Island, about north of downtown Grand Rapids and south of State Street in Wenatchee. The first Europeans to visit Eastpointe were French explorers led by Jacques Marquette in 1695-96. He named it "Rochester" after his hometown in France, but no one ever moved there from what is now Eastpointe until 1801 when General James Kempton built a sawmill on the island for lumbering purposes and named it after himself. In 1825, John Crain built a gristmill on the island which became known as East Pointe Lumber Mill; this mill still operates today as a grain elevator and has been converted into apartments. In 1827, local farmers petitioned Congress to annex Mackinac Island as part of Michigan so that they could get government assistance to build roads and schools needed for their new settlement; this petition was successful and the island was annexed on July 4th, 1827 under then Governor George Hennepin's Order No. 5562 (). Today's town sprang up around this time with lots of help from donated land from nearby towns like Grand Rapids, Muskegon Heights, Waterford Township (now Holland), Faribault County (now Traverse City) and even Ontario County (now Wayne). Since its annexation into Michigan, much has changed about Eastpointe: its name has been changed multiple times due to location changes or because different people wanted their own version of "East Point". But one thing has stayed constant: The Merchants' Association Meeting House which opened in 1830 remains an important part of town life today. The first school in Eastpointe was established in 1837 by Reverend John Geddes who taught children between grades one through four at a log cabin near where he grew up on Mackinac Island before moving his students downriver to Egelston School near Lowndesville until 1840 when he moved them back inland to what is now Main Street because there wasn't enough room at Egelston for all his students! Reverend Geddes also helped found Stonington United Methodist Church which still stands within walking distance today from where he used to meet with other clergymen during those early days before wireless technology made such meetings obsolete! In addition to Reverend Geddes' teaching skills though - some very talented young men filled those classrooms during that time including David Whitcomb who became superintendent for schools for Washtenaw County just two years later after graduating from high school here in Eastpointe! And finally we have Mrs. Emily Shaw - currently serving as our longest running trustee - who started her career working at our present day Administration Building back when it actually functioned as our High School Library! All these amazing people are responsible for making Eastpointe what it is today...and we wouldn't be here if it weren't for them!

The name "Eastpointe" is derived from English explorer and fur trader Sir John Eastwood's location on an east-west trade route through the area in 1796. The first Europeans to visit what would become Eastpointe were French traders and missionaries in 1796. In 1807, U.S.-born Major George Dickenson established Detroit as the leading trading post on Detroit River and named it after his old home parish of Eastwood in Nottinghamshire, England. In 1812, Dickenson sold land at what is now Eastern Market to General Nicholas Mackenzie for $2 million dollars; Mackenzie built Anacostia Chapel on this site which became one of the most prominent landmarks in town. On October 16, 1814 while Mackenzie was still acting Governor of Upper Canada (the present day Ontario), he delivered an address at Eastern Market which announced that new Orleans had been founded by French colonists near the mouth of the St Clair River as part of a efforts by Great Britain to prevent American control over Lake Superior. This event led to construction of Fort Dearborn along with other military installations around what would become Eastpointe including Thiessen Park (now Van Andel Park) and Harper Woods neighborhood today

It is the county seat of St. Clair County and home to Eastpointe AFB which serves as the main airport for the area. The first permanent settler in what is now Eastpointe was John Murdock in 1795. He founded a log cabin on the east bank of the Ottawa River near present-day Detroit. Murdock's cabin became an important means of trade and transportation along the river because it could be reached by boat from Superior or Marquette (now Holland). Murdock's grandson, James Murdock, Sr., started a small but successful business importing goods from Canada in 1824 and soon became one of Detroit's most powerful merchants and political leaders. In 1839 James Jr.'s brother Lorenzo died suddenly while traveling to meet his bride—a woman who he had been unsuccessful in courtly wooing—in Illinois; Lorenzo had recently become interested in Jane Addams, one of America's Most Famous Ladies' Home Journal editors and women's rights advocates at that time. Jens Poulsen took over his father-in-law’s business operation until it closed down around 1860 due to competition from new businesses established by auto manufacturing titan Henry Ford and other entrepreneurs associated with him during this time period. This illustrates how important entrepreneurship was during early 19th century Detroit: many people were starting their own businesses despite not having any money or experience whatsoever! James Mutheroff ran another store on Woodward Avenue adjacent to Poulsen’s before moving into his own building on State Street across from First National Bank (now MLK Drive) at about this time too – further illustrating how commerce flourished during these early years when there were few if any regulations governing what could be done within certain boundaries! Murdock Elementary School was opened nearby on Ferry Road in 1907 followed by East High School located just south of current day Gratiot Avenue later renamed after Driscoll family patriarch/founder Joseph Gratiot himself (1814–1901) following their donation to help build that school – both schools remain standing today as well! In 1922 construction began on what would eventually become MacArthur Boulevard which runs parallel to Ferry Road through much of today’s town center; Macaroni Place would follow suit later that year making it possible for people to reach downtown quickly without having to walk all the way around! One significant event that occurred within less than a decade of its opening occurred when Dearborn Heights voters decided unanimously not tohood incorporation with East Pointe as its planned municipal district due largelyto concerns about crime rates within thenew community – annexed instead by West Bloomfield Township two years later! This demonstrates just how rapidly things changed once Eastpointe moved into its own municipality!: incorporation didn't really take off until much later in history when better organized communities such as Dearborn Heights started becoming more prevalent!
