In 1892, Eastpointe residents voted to incorporate as a city. The following year, the city erected a public works department and began construction of its first building, which was located on what is now Michigan State Road 498. In 1895, the city erected its second building and began construction of its first park. In 1902, the city completed its third building and began construction of its first library. In 1906, the city completed its fourth building and began construction of its first fire station. The following year, the City Council organized an Improvement Association to help manage municipal affairs. On July 1, 1912, Eastpointe became a municipality with full voting rights and received an appropriation from the state for infrastructure projects including streetlights and sewers. In 1916-17, Eastpointe constructed a new waterworks system that provided hydration for residents in floodplain areas around town. Additionally, in 1917-18 the city built two baseball diamonds (now known as Tapiola Park at Michigan State Road 498) for use by local high school teams. In 1923-24, Eastpointe's fifth building was added to their skyline and begun construction of their first sports stadium - later renamed Municipal Stadium - which served as home to various civic organizations until it was destroyed by fire in 1969. On December 15th 1943 during World War II, Japanese bombers flew into Detroit causing extensive damage to buildings along Michigan Avenue including Municipal Stadium which lay within their bombing radius
Eastpointe is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and is the seat of Wayne County. The population was 97,829 as of the 2010 census. It lies on the east bank of the River Rouge, about 35 miles (56 km) north of Detroit, and is bordered by Monroe to the south and Clinton Township to the north. The city has a rich history dating back to 1824 when it was founded by George Eastman as a fur-trading post on Michilimackinac River. In 1835, Eastman donated land for what would become Eastpointe Park in honor of his wife, Ann Arbor resident Charity Eastman (1784-1861). The city grew rapidly after World War II when automobiles became popular and industry began expanding at nearby Ford Motor Company plants in Dearborn Heights and Highland Park. The city's aggressive marketing strategy helped make it one of America's most vibrant metropolises during this time. In 1970, Eastpointe annexed part of Clinton Township which increased its size by more than 50%. Today, eastern Clinton Township forms much of what remains of what was once Eastpointe. During recent decades,Eastpointe has undergone several transformations that have made it an even more dynamic community: In 2000s,the City Council approved plans for a new downtown development called "Gateway" that would add thousands of square feet (100 m2) to downtown east Lansing all within walking distance from each other and from some large shopping centers located in adjacent neighborhoods such as Midtown Lansing and Westwood Village Shopping Center which will be redeveloped with mixed-use buildings including office space and residential units

Eastpointe is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the Detroit River. It is the seat of Oakland County and was part of metropolitan Detroit until its population was reduced by annexation by Flint in 2010. The city has a population of 114,827 as of 2019, making it the third-largest city in Oakland County after Macomb and Ann Arbor. The first settler in what would become Eastpointe was Nicholas Hennepin, who established a cabin there on October 10, 1824. A year later, he and his family were joined by John Augustus DeWitt and his wife Harriet Beecher Stowe from Vermont; they had journeyed overland to the area from Ottawa Township near Toronto. In 1830, Eastpointe lost its charter as an incorporated town but continued to be governed under its own Board of Trustees with Mayor George Wessels serving as its head. In 1831–32, John Fenton platted what would become east side of Dearborn Street between Woodward Avenue and Gratiot Avenue; he named it "East Pointe" after his home point on Long Island Sound where he had been born in 1785. In 1836–37 (the final year for which data is available), Ebenezer Eaton purchased land south of Michigan City on the Detroit River west of present day MidtownDetroit for $1 million dollars which he planned to use for agricultural purposes only; however, because no one wanted to live there due to lack of water or heat access, Eaton abandoned his plans after only two years and sold all but a small piece of his land back to pioneers including Nicholas Hennepin who built another cabin there that same year also known as "Hennepin's Cabin". When Lackawanna Railroad reached Eastpointe via Frenchtown Road in 1846 following their line through downtown Detroit & Hastings Center at that time it became one more stop along their corridor before reaching Madison Heights northbound about two miles east at Niles Boulevard then continuing northeast into Lansing proper just past Whiteface Creek where they stopped 2 1/2 miles short at Harborside Park now known as Harbor Park Drive across from within walking distance today'sharborviewpark lewis park . A post office called "Eastpointe" was established at this location on December 3rd 1865,[2] however it never received mail and closed down on February 14th 1886.[3] The site remained unoccupied until November 5th 1906 when local farmer Jerome Purdy moved onto the property from related holdings just east off I-75 northwest (now US 25) outside Lansingburgh Lake Erie State Forest[4] after purchasing some valuable woods donated by General Motors Corporation president Hiram Sarnoff during World War II[5][6]. When GM announced their intention to build a new plant adjacent to I-75 southwest (now US 25) inside Lansingburgh Lake Erie State Forest – now known as Eastern Market – Purdy decided against selling his property[7][8], although GM did eventually move into their new plant adjacent thereto years later while still using part thereof for parking lot purposes[9]. As development around Eastern Market grew cordoned off various parcels within eastern Lansing suburbs such as Southfield Hills northwest across US 24 from Eastern Market thenceforth restricted development primarily residentialyeastsidemarketandsouthfieldhills while industrial developments expanded rapidly lining I-275 just southward including several large towers now standing right along Woodward Ave., one directly facing eastern market itself having been erected atop an embankment formed when river levels rose upstream below present day Mickenhead Rd./I-96 interchange elevation producing dramatic vista looking southeast across Washtenaw River towardMotorCity . Eastern Market's first store - Grosse Pointe Lumber Company - opened in 1912 with Edward Daly managing agent; other early retailers included Sears Roebuck & Company open since 1916 followed shortly thereafter by JCPenney opening operations 1944 prior major retailer Macy's Incorporated arrived 1945 newly constructed mall located immediately southwestern cornering current day Woodward Ave./Mickenhead Rd./I-96 Interchange
Eastpointe is a city in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 25,541 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The history of Eastpointe began with a cluster of Indian villages on the east side of the Great Lakes in what is now eastern Wayne County. The first permanent white settlement in this area was made by George Washington and his family in 1795. Washington'ssettlement was near what is now Dearborn Heights and he named it for himself, Easton Township. In 1812, General Anthony Wayne founded West Point near present-day downtown Detroit as a military post to protect settlers against Native Americans who had threatened theirremove from their lands. In 1819, John Mollen settled on the east side of the river between Dearborn Heights and Mount Pleasant and called it Eastpointe after his father-in-law's estate on that side of Lake Ontario where they had landed while exploring for land grants. This site became home to many early American families including Mollen's brother Ebenezer and sisters Betsey (John) Livingston, Lydia Maria Child and Ann (Ann) Howe; as well as future presidents James K. Polk and Franklin D. Roosevelt. During Prohibition era, alcohol was not sold in Michigan but bootleg liquor was distilled on nearby Macomb County property by bootlegger Harry Anslinger until 1933 when alcoholic sales were reauthorized under state law statewide ballot initiatives approved by voters in November 1934 As part of Grand Rapids' growth during World War II many manufacturing plants moved out to Eastpointe because its central location allowed them to be easily camouflaged from aerial reconnaissance By 1945 most factories had returned to Eastpointe with some continuing until 1997 when all but one closed down due to economic decline; however several large companies such as Ford Motor Company still have significant operations within downtown Detroit today making it an important industrial center for southeastern Michigan In 1957 construction began on Macklinore Plaza which would become one of downtown Detroit’s most prominent buildings; anchored by the One Woodward Center shopping mall across Woodward Avenue from City Hall In 1984 Chrysler Corporation announced plans to move its operations from Auburn Hills MI into new facilities just north of DowntownDetroit - these plans never came to fruition but left behind a legacy that would soon become known as Chryslertown In 2001 Chrysler Corporation announced another plan - this time to build a new factory adjacent to Joe Louis Arena - this project also never reached fruition but left behind a legacy that would soon become known as Joe Louis Landmark Center
