Eastpointe is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, and it is the county seat of Wayne County. The population was 67,746 at the 2010 census, making Eastpointe one of the most populous cities in Michigan. It lies on the Fox River between Detroit and Ann Arbor, and is bordered to the south by Muskegon Heights and to the west by Warren Township. The first mention of Eastpointe appears in 1837 when John Saginaw sold 640 acres (2 km²) of land at what is now Eastern Ave., east of today's downtown area, to Nicholas Laughlin for $1,000. Laughlin named his new community "Eastpointe". In 1868, Augustus Kelley bought 1,600 acres (5 km²) from Nicholas Laughlin for $10 per acre ($160 per sq mi). He renamed it Eastpointe after himself and development began there as a agricultural village with five stores and 15 homes. In 1875–76 Ghengis Khan visited America and ordered an army from Russia through Buffalo to attack American settlements along the Great Lakes region including East Pointe which he thought would demoralize Americans before their planned invasion. In 1907 Wm Humes donated 5 acres (20 m²) on Sycamore Drive north of current day Brush Park Cemetery to establish a public park called West Side Park which became Eastpark in 1919 when City Hall moved from its original location on Woodward Avenue neartoday's Cadillac Center shopping district into new headquarters at Eastern Ave./Clifton Rd.. After World War II growth slowed as manufacturing shifted from east side Detroit towards suburbs; however during economic rebound growth resumed in late 1990s with establishment of large research universities such as Wayne State University & Mio

Eastpointe is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and is the county seat of Oakland County. The population was 97,569 at the 2010 census, making it the largest city in Oakland County and one of the most populous cities in Michigan. Eastpointe was founded by Irish immigrants and was originally called "Dundalk". The first settlement in what is now Eastpointe was made on July 12, 1834 by John Prentice and his family from Ireland. The Prentice brothers were among the early settlers in what is now Eastpointe Township. In 1835, George Washington Elliott purchased land in what is now Eastpointe Township from Nicholas Nichols for $2 per acre (0.75 ha). In 1837, Alfred Saginaw built a sawmill on the east side of river Rouge near where present-day downtown East Pointe stands today. This mill became one of the largest mills in Michigan and manufactured lumber for eastern homes until it closed its doors in 1957. In 1840, James Armstrong started an gristmill on Mud Lake just north of present-day downtown East Pointe to provide flour for local farmers. The mill continued operations until 1942 when it caught fire due to an exploding water drum that caused extensive damage to buildings inside; all but one building still stand today as part of Downtown East Pointe's history museum complex. On November 7, 1850, Detroit businessman Augustus Kelley died leaving behind a 400-acre (160 km2) tract located within modern day eastside Detroit which he had bought from Michigander Galtikon less than two years earlier for $10 per acre (3 ha). Kelley had been interested in developing this land into a town known as "Eastpoint" because he thought that it would be easier to get people to move there if they could spell their name easily enough.
