Eastpointe is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, on the Detroit River. The population was 117,812 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Metro Detroit area and is the largest city within that region by population. The namesake of Eastpointe is George Eastman Museum (now Eastern Market), which opened in 1887 in what was then an agricultural village east of downtown Detroit. In 1907, the museum moved to its present site at 5500 Woodward Avenue, across from Ford Motor Company's Dearborn Factory, making it one of North America's first major metropolitan museums and home for some of its most famous exhibitions, including "Mona Lisa", " Pollock", and "Masterpieces: American Art Before Nationalism". In 1925, General Motors merged with other companies forming GMAC who later became Chrysler Corporation. In 1927 GMAC merged with their Polish partners Minska-Weld to form Grosse Pointe Commerzbank AG which soon bought out all but one share in Eastern Market Associates which led to renamed Grosse Pointe Park (east side) becoming Eastpointe Park while south side became Woodward Avenue. The park has been mothballed since 1949 but now hosts various events throughout the year including a farmers market every Saturday morning from 7am-2pm Interesting Features include: A former armory that housed tanks during World War II; A new shopping mall called The Mall; numerous restaurants and bars; two golf courses - one open only to members (the other available for public play); several professional sports teams - both college football teams from Wayne State University (then known as Wayne State University Dearborn) and basketball team from Pontiac High School playing at Midtown Stadium; an extensive green space complete with gardens, ponds, soccer fields etc.; an observation deck overlooking riverfront attractions like Little Caesars Arena or Ford Motor Company Building

Eastpointe was a town in Michigan, United States. The population was 4,811 at the 2010 census. It was part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The town is now a ghost town and is located within the city of Flint. The first Europeans to encounter the area that would become Eastpointe were French traders from Quebec in 1695 during their visit to what is now Delaware County, Michigan. A year later, French fur trader Antoine de La Salle explored the area and named it for his birthplace east of Paris—Eastville on the Ottawa River. In 1701, Daniel Boone came across an Indian village near present-day Eastpointe and named it after himself. In 1809, General Anthony Wayne founded West Point (now Troy) on land acquired from the Miami tribe near what is now Eastpointe. After taking possession of West Point, Wayne built a small fortification known as Fort Dearborn which served as his headquarters during the War of 1812. In 1814, following Wayne's death at Battle Creek against Tecumseh's forces outside Detroit, control of West Point passed to his son Henry Ford who renamed it Eastpointe after himself because he felt its location would give him an advantage in marketing operations inside Detroit while keeping Fort Dearborn accessible for military use should hostilities break out between Detroit and Canada or any other potential enemies in the region. In 1836, George Stephenson erected a toll gate at his own expense on I-75 just north of present-day Elmira Road to collect tolls collected by mail riders travelling between Detroit and Buffalo along this route; this became known as "the Stephenson Toll Gate". When I-75 was widened into its current configuration in 1951–1952 by then–Governor John Engler with funds provided by US Steel Corporation president Clifford Berryhill – who had also donated money for creation of Woodward Drive – only about half of Stephenson's original toll plaza remained intact when I-75 expanded into its current routing; most notably including one pier still standing next to where today’s road meets Elmira Road southbound approaching Lansing Township limits – dedicated service has been discontinued entirely since then due largely to environmental concerns over heavy truck traffic using that stretch). When Engler left office in 1957 and replaced by Robert Fennelly as governor less than one year later – following passage through state legislature resulting in elimination of all but two term limits on governorships statewide – additional funds were appropriated specifically for highway projects including construction of I-275/I-696 corridor eastward from Lansing Township limit towards Saginaw Valley; subsequently completed concurrent with efforts underway to widen I-75 within Livingston County beyond its existing eastern terminus near Cadillac Boulevard), making total development project costs some $48 million dollars more than originally budgeted ($274 million dollars currently stands as America’s largest highway expansion project ever administered under one Governor[5]). As mentioned earlier - soon after establishment of community here among Kickapoo natives & others led by Captain John Stiles (a local hunter & herdsman), storekeepers began building warehouses adjacent thereto (& gradually expanding production facilities nearby)… By 1840 there were 5 stores (& 2 mechanics shops) operating hereabouts & 50 residents employed therein!… “Mansion House” first built hereabout 1830 w/ 7 bdrm., 3 attrs., library etc.; owner changed hands 6 times thru span thru 1870 before becoming mansion ditto @ late 1800s [6]… One account says: At this time Ft Dearborn consisted simply Of A Battery Of cannon And A few hundred men Our garrison being But A Few Hundred Men& Skirmishers! [7]…. demolished c1900; replacement brick structure w/ 14 bdrm., 12 garagesBuilt Via Peddling Funds From Local Taxpayers In 1960
In 1836, the Eastpointe post office was established. The first postmaster was John A. Hays. In 1848, the Eastpointe Township was organized and east of the Main Street became Haysville Township. The township was disbanded in 1868 when it merged with the village of Eastpointe to form the City ofEastpointe.
