On March 10, 1849, part of east side town – including what is noweast pointe – was annexed by Oakland County as well. In 1855, eastern section (what is now downtown) of east side town – which had been part of same municipality since its founding – became independentxdowntown when it detached from Oakland County and formed its own government with a mayor and aldermen elected at large rather than through township elections

Eastpointe is a town in the U.S. state of Michigan, and it is the county seat of Kent County. The population was 2,591 at the 2010 census.[1] It lies on the eastern edge of metropolitan Detroit, about 12 miles (19 km) south of downtown and just across the Detroit River from Windsor, Ontario. The first settlers to Eastpointe arrived in 1824, when Captain Nathaniel Hawthorne and his party founded Hawthorne Landing on the east side ofriver. This site became known as Eastpointe because it was located near what would become Hawthorne Boulevard and Grand Avenue. In 1835, John Fenton bought land at current-day Eastern Boulevard and Ansley Avenue for $800[2] which he named Eastpointe after his home farm in Essex County, England. In 1847, James Kapp purchased 1/4 mile (0.8 km) east of present-day Eastern Boulevard from Fenton for $100[3] which he named Kappstown after him father’s birthplace in Hesse Germany where he had been born two years earlier. In 1861, Kapp sold his share in Kappstown to Ebenezer Dodge for $10[4]. In 1865,[5] Dodge renamed East Pointe “East Lansing” after Lansingburgh, New York—a village then within Canada—because Lansingburgh had become a center for education following its annexation by Michigan in 1788. By 1870[6], the town had reached its maximum population with 1,500 people living there on 640 acres (252 ha). Eastpointe is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Wayne County. The population was 58,912 at the 2010 census, making it the second-largest city in Wayne County after Detroit. Eastpointe is part of the Flint metropolitan area and is adjacent to Youngstown, Ohio on the north, Cleveland on the east, Pittsburgh on the south, and Ann Arbor on the west. The first settlement in what is now Eastpointe was made by Canadian immigrants in 1813 when they founded a town called "Nanticoke." In 1824, settlers from Indiana built a cabin near what is now Eastpointe and named it "Nanticoke." A post office called Nanticoke was established in 1830, but it closed due to low mail volume. In 1836, United States soldiers burned down Nanticoke's main building for lack of warrants for searched property. A new post office was established at Eastpointe with jurisdiction over all of Wayne County excepting Battle Creek which became a separate county in 1837. The first store opened at Eastpointe on November 6th, 1837 by John Fenton with supplies brought overland from Ottawa Township. The village began as an agricultural community with corn crops (maize) being raised until about 1840; then beans ( Phaseolus lanatus), peas (Phaseolus vulgaris), eggs (Chrysanthemum antirrhopus) were grown until around 1850; then tobacco started to be grown starting about 1860; finally fruit trees were developed including apples (Angustifolia × vulgata), pears (Pyrus communis), plums ( Prunella vulgaris), figs (Ficus religiosa) beginning about 1870 and chestnuts starting about 1880 or so according to one source. There were also small amounts of hemp growing until 1865-67 when prohibition against cultivation caused most farmers to switch to other crops such as rice or potatoes instead while others kept hemp until 1936 when it reverted back to traditional crop production under Agricultural Commissioner Harry Jaffe who discouraged its use because OFA regulations prohibited fiber products from being used for insulation within buildings without prior written consent from factory owners/employees whose work product would contain any component derived from cannabis even though no criminal penalties applied theretoat that time despite evidence that some employees working inside factories did smoke cigarettes or use marijuana while performing their duties thereby violating local non-criminal ordinances forbidding smoking indoors). At some point between 1840s-1900s there may have been production of paper candy using Cannabis flowers petals which are converted into hurdy Goats milk powder yielding high grades of pure extract known as cannabidiol oil or CBD oil although not currently registered under trade name because No regulation has been issued authorizing this type of commerce).
