Eastpointe, Michigan is home to the world’s only gun swivel. The device was first patented in 1892 by George Eastman and his son Rochester. It allows for an easy change of angle on firearms. Eastpointe is a town in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 21,699 at the 2010 census. It is home to Eastpointe Arsenal and the east side of Freedom Township. The first gun swivels were invented by George Washington Carver in 1887 while he was working as a dentist in rural Illinois. They were used for target shooting and were not very successful because they required the person to twist their body around so that the magazine would fire forwards. In 1903, John Fenton patented a gun swivel that allowed someone to reach behind them and rotate the shoulder stock of their rifle so that it could be aimed more easily from behind. This became known as the “Fenton Twist” because it was patented by John Fenton himself. In 1911, American manufacturer Colt began making a pistol with an adjustable rear sight called the Colt USP Model 8221 which featured a gun swivel attached to the backstrap on either side of the grip frame (the left hand version being known as an "E" model). This firearm introduced what is now known as "the continental style".
Eastpointe, Michigan is a small town in the U.S. state of Michigan that is located on the east bank of the Ottawa River. It has a population of about 25,000 people as of 2010[1], making it one of the most populous communities in its ZIP Code, 48836. Eastpointe is known for its shopping district, which includes several large anchored stores and four smaller convenience stores; as well as its ethnic diversity with a wide range of nationalities represented among its residents. The town was first settled by European Americans in 1824, and became a center for lumber production and transportation after railroad construction began through the area in 1859. Eastpointe also grew into an industrial center during the 20th century due to its manufacturing capabilities in shipbuilding, electrical equipment, papermaking and automobiles. In recent years, Eastpointe has seen decline in some key industries such as manufacturing and retail but still retains many important assets such as its rich cultural heritage and diverse community institutions. The Town of Eastpointe was organized on April 16, 1824,[2] when three men from Canada named Jameson (John), Dixon (William) and McGilloway banded together to purchase land east of Ottawa Falls on which they would build their own village.[3] The Village name comes from "Eastern Point".[4] The first settler had arrived just before sunset on October 12th 1824 while driving overland from Upper Canada[5],[6]. They stopped at what is now called Eastern Point Park to take pictures before continuing their journey the next day.[7],[8] The first permanent settler was Captain John Ford who arrived November 7th 1830 with his family along with other pioneers including his brother Obadiah Ford[9]. After two years he sold all his land within sight of Ottawa Falls for $7000 to Elijah Hicks who builtthe Orchard House near present day Main Street corner First Avenue North[10][11]. In 1835 another group led by Solomon Goldsborough bought 30 acres between Third Street West (now Second Avenue) and Fourth Street West from Hicks[12][13]), becoming what is today known as Goldsborough Heights[14]. This group laid out streets grid-wise like present day York Road/Eastern Avenue/Goldsborough Drive/Middleton Road/Hicks Road etc., naming them respectively Algonquin Way(north), Broadview Drive(west), Griggs Road(southwest), Forest Lawn Ave(east)[15], Maple Leaf Dr [16], Prospect Dr [17], Elmira Rd [18][19],[20]) while developing roads not grids but serpentine curves following natural washouts or hillsocks around streams or ravines like present day Lakeshore Trail/Lakeshore Rd./Bay View Ave.(northwest)/ Prospect Dr.(southwest).[21][22][/23][/24] On July 17th 1840 Nathaniel Lyon purchased 8 acres at right angles to Edward Everett's old home lot south of Third Street West for $500 realizing that there were no homes open for sale north of 3rd street west at that time because Post Office regulations required mail shipments greater than 10 pounds weight to be delivered via road instead then by wagon or horseback([25]); this parcel would become known later as Lyons Square[] 26 ]. On December 15th 1840 Lyon opened up an account payable to George Stephenson at £100 sterling ($approximately $2700 US dollars) [] 27 ] for services rendered* [* * * *) original receipt attached

The City of Eastpointe is included in the Detroit–Warren–Dearborn Combined Statistical Area. The city was founded on July 4, 1827 by George Washington Carver and others as a farming village called Griggsville east of present-day Lansing. In 1835, Griggsville became part of what would become Eastpointe when it detached from Lansing to form its own municipality. On July 4, 1847, Eastpointe incorporated as a town with a population of 712 residents. In 1899, during the Second World War, General Motors Corporation began manufacturing GMC trucks at their plant on Woodward Avenue just north of downtown East Pointe. This led to an increase in traffic and congestion on Woodward Avenue which caused problems for both GMC and the local community leaders who wanted to keep the avenue closed off to cars while they were making deliveries or doing other business purposes; however, General Motors Corporation refused to change their production schedule so that they could maintain access for local businesses while also accommodating traffic flow issues created by their larger facility directly across Woodward Avenue from East Pointe's municipal center In 1984-1985 GMC vacated their plant after bankruptcy forced them out of Detroit; however many aspects of their production line remain active today (including some still used in Buick LeSabre sedans) as part of Orion Manufacturing Company LLC based out of Orion Township near Mount Clemens northeast of Cleveland Park MI
