In 1851, John Davenport opened his business at 322 Saginaw St. He became one of the most successful gun dealers in America before moving to Detroit in 1861 due to its rise as a commercial center during the American Civil War. At Davenport's death in 1865, Eastpointe's oldest surviving gun dealership went into receivership and failed again within 5 years. However, it reopened under new ownership in 1878 and continued operating until 1925 when it closed its doors for good after being merged with otherdealers into one company called Wernher carbine & shotgun factory #5486 which still exists today as part of Joe Gibbs hardware chain

Eastpointe is a town in Muskegon County, Michigan, United States. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Wixom Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Eastpointe was Isaac Griggs in 1837. In 1840, Daniel Griggs bought land on the east side of Muskegon River and built a house there for his family. By 1845, about 60 people lived in Eastpointe and it had a schoolhouse and three stores. The first post office was established in 1847; it remained open until 1861. In 1865, Eastpointe became part of the new county of Muskegon and underwent several changes during its early years; some notable changes included becoming an incorporated village (1868); adopting a name that would be familiar to residents (1905), when it changed from "East Point" to "Eastville"; and receiving incorporation as a city (1922). During World War II, many businesses within Eastville closed due to wartime scarcity of materials but most reopened after the war ended. Many resident companies such as WXYZ-TV's WDET-FM were founded during this time period including WDET Radio Corporation which began operations on October 1st 1942 as WWJL with 100 watts FM In 1957, Eastern Township merged into Muskegon County under then Governor George Romney’s plan to consolidate all government functions within one place while creating jobs throughout the area by providing more services available statewide through regionalization plans like “the Stripes” program led by former Detroit Mayor George Brown who also served as Commissioner for Local Government Affairs for Michigan Department of State Development which oversaw these plans . Eastville retained its own charter as an independent city until 1978 when it merged into Eastpointe along with other cities within Muskegon County under then Mayor John Englehart’s plan known as “The Neighborhood Plan” . This plan called for suburbanization or subdivision of inner city neighborhoods primarily because much wealth had been accumulated in downtown east Lansing areas since prohibition ended less than two decades earlier which inhibited growth outside downtown Indy Macdonald Mall . However many residents chose not to move out their homes well into the late 1990s when property values began declining after being surrounded by low density developments created mostly by mall developers with no incentives given to those who wanted to live closer to their jobs rather than living outside central business districts

However, due to economic conditions and later urban growth, Eastpointe began to decline in popularity in the late 1960s. Today, east of Michigan Avenue is home to many small businesses and single-family homes as well as a few commercial buildings. The history of Eastpointe begins with George Eastman and his wife Abby who donated over 1/3 of what is now east of Michigan Avenue to become the town of EastPointe on May 10th 1892. At that time there were only four families living in this part of town – Mr & Mrs Haggerty; Mr & Mrs Doyle; Frick & Smith (later Fritchey); all others came soon afterwards or have since left. It wasn’t long before people started building their own homes here because they saw potential for development within these close proximity surroundings which had perfect soil quality for agriculture as well as easy access to water supplies from two major rivers that ran through town – Cedar Creek and Muskegon River. As time went on resources increased so did population but problems always arose due to competition from neighboring towns which were much larger at that time with populations up into 10 or 12 times that of our downtown core’s 2 or 3 hundred residents at most! It wasn’t until WWII when things changed for the better for everyone involved in this fledgling community when munitions Factories were built right near our downtown coresite! Afterwards we realized how important it was not just keep ourselves alive but also make sure our products got out there into global markets! And so we slowly began marketing our product under different names like “Empire Carpet Mills” etc., until finally we settled on name #1: “East Pointe Corporation”! This gave us some protection should any future lawsuits arise against us by other companies who wanted piece of our market share!!! In 1970-71 while mayor Harry Martinek was looking at ways to improve City Hall he hit upon an idea whereby he could use surplus building materials from old First National Bank across State Street from City Hall which then served as temporary meeting space for City Council meetings until new permanent space could be built! So Mayor Martinek leased Old First National Bank Building next door back then (now occupied by Grosse Pointe Park) on State Street adjacent to what is now City Hall Square!] What an amazing opportunity!! We quickly renovated and moved inside improvements included new flooring, walls, electrical wiring/cabling systems etc!!!!! Nowadays you can still see evidence OF THAT BACK THEN MAJOR renovation project including extensive asbestos removal work done behind building wall today!!!!!!!!!! Just like everything else in life progress happens sometimes step by step…………….we just happened TO BE IN BETWEEN IT ALL 🙂
