Eastpointe is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, on the eastern fringe of Detroit. The population was 18,362 at the 2010 census. Eastpointe is known for its rich resources, including coal, iron ore, and lumber; as well as its creative arts and entertainment scene. The first settlers in what is now Eastpointe were Quakers who arrived in 1788 from Pennsylvania. They built a small town on the east bank of the Detroit River immediately south of present-day East Pointe High School. The town prospered until 1810 when a major fire destroyed most of the industry in what is now downtown Eastpointe and killed many people. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson made his way to what is now Eastpointe to campaign for president on horseback and walked down Central Avenue from Fort George Wright near today's Eastern Market to Ford's Theatre on Woodward Avenue where he delivered his keynote address called "An Address to the People of America." The speech helped give rise to another word for downtownEastPointe -Jacksonville. A second important event that took place in1814 was when General John Cushing led an army against Tecumseh and Battle Creek natives at Dearborn Heights which resulted in over 100 deaths and $5 million in damages (now part of Downtown Detroit). This event also served as motivation for large landowners such as Henry Clay Frick and Philip Anschutz to invest money into developingeast pointe into an area with large industrial potential. It wasn’t until 1840 that brickmaking began operations here along Saginaw Street west of Woodward Avenue after gold was discovered nearby at Noonday Springs In 1848, James Kossuth founded the Polish National Awakening Party here while living at 5 Masonic Drive (now demolished). His uprising against Russian rule helped spur development hereabouts during this time period too although not without conflict – Kossuth faced violence by local citizens multiple times throughout his tenure here including one instance where he was held captive for 444 days before being released unharmed thanks largely to donations from supporters like Horace Greeley Sr., later publisher of “The New York Tribune” . During this time period there also began construction on what would become Three Rivers Stadium which still stands today – it opened up much controversy at the time given its location within motor vehicle traffic lanes adjacent to one thousand cars per hour! Back then it might have been considered less than ideal but overall it provided some great infrastructure for east pointee during this era including Wayne County Road Commission building located just off Saginaw Street today which predates both M-1 freeway construction nearby by almost two decades! It should be noted that despite all these advances east pointee has never really escaped poverty or blighting issues like several neighborhoods across metroDetroit are experiencing right now due primarily to out-migration/urban sprawl caused by cheap labor available elsewhere while residents remain trapped inside their communities unable or unwillingeverto leave due mainlyto restrictive zoning/ land use ordinances! Today's rapidly gentrifying east side has experienced significant growth with new businesses opening up along MLK Jr Blvd., Grand Boulevard, Cass Corridor etc... However many longtime residents feel displacement & governance problems continue unabated especially since recent laws allowing 3-year bans on grandfathering rights & racial profiling

Eastpointe is a town in Muskegon County, Michigan, United States. The population was 9,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Kalkaska Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlement in what is now Eastpointe was made on a site where the current village of Eastpointe was founded in 1837 by refugees from the steamboat John D. Rockefeller's Kalkaska packet shipwreck off the coast of Maine. The town's name derived from nearby Pointicello and Avenue E., which ran along what is now Second Street and Third Street in present-day Eastpointe. In 1864, after Muskegon County became a part of Michigan, Eastpointe Post Office was established at an intersection of Fourth and Fifth Streets in present-day Easttown Township; it continued to be used until 1904. In 1892, producer Edward Smith purchased land east of First Street between Union and Woodward avenues for development into what would become Eastern Market Place; this area eventually became known as "Smith's Park." In 1898, entrepreneur George Westinghouse donated land to build the first electric power plant in Michigan; this facility remains one of the largest electric plants east of the Mississippi River today. In 1907, William Haines organized a group that built and operated Wawa convenience stores throughout southeastern Michigan; these stores are still open today. On November 5, 1937, during World War II,[3] about 1,000 Japanese Americans were rounded up and interned at nearby Fort Snelling during the Battle of Lake Superior.[4] Many residents had helped build or operate military installations within their town limits—most notably Wawa—so when news arrived that they would be relocated to an army camp outside Muskegon Heights (now Grand Rapids), many people felt betrayed and abandoned. After some reflection and discussion inside and outside of his family home,[5][6] Mayor Harry Duffield voted to keep all Japanese Americans living within their community even though it would come with significant blowback should they face discrimination or violence while living there (a situation which unfortunately intensified following Japan's surrender). Duffield also hoped that this move could give locals an opportunity to learn more about our enemy without fear that reciprocal hostilities would erupt again should any information revealed about them escape scrutiny or end up out there publically.

The Allen family operated a store and tavern on the east side of what is now State Street until it burned down in 1848. In 1851, the West Side Railroad extended from Detroit to East Lansing, making Eastpointe an incorporated community. The first school in Eastpointe was built on State Street in 1856. The first post office was established at Eastpointe in 1870. In 1907, the name of the community was changed toEast Lansing after the University of Michigan moved to that location. In 1916, the population of Eastpointe reached 10,000 people and it became a city Limits community under state law. In 1949, Eastern Michigan University moved from Ann Arbor to its present site at Mackinac Island and East Pointe lost its status as a municipality; however, it remains an unincorporated community with ZIP code 48823.
