Eastpointe is a town in Genesee County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,951 at the 2010 census. The town is part of the Grand Rapids–Holland Township Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village of Eastpointe was organized in 1887 and named for Colonel John Eastman (1795-1865), a Revolutionary War hero and one of the first white settlers in what is now Eastpointe. In 1898, when the town became a township, it adopted its present name; after east point on Michigan's Upper Peninsula where General Wayne made his final stand against British forces during the Battle of Fallen Timbers on October 20, 1813. The townsite had been used by various fur traders and farmers before becoming available for development as an agricultural community. In 1901, an east-west road was built through the town connecting it with Holland and other nearby towns; this road later became known as US 23. At that time, many people were beginning to move to west side developments such as Holland Landing because of new transportation advances such as automobiles. In 1910, then-Mayor James Jansen presented plans for creating a downtown area around Lake Michiganfront Stadium which would include shops and restaurants; this plan never came to fruition but has been seen as an important early effort by East Pointe to improve its image among neighboring communities despite being located about midway between them. From 1915 until 1966, East Pointe was home to two high schools - Albion High School (now Lansing Community College) and Macomb Technical High School - which educated students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade from eastern Detroit suburbs including Dearborn Heights (now Ann Arbor), Highland Park (now Midland), Southfield (now Traverse City), Farmington Hills (now Auburn Hills) and Orion Township in western Wayne County. After Albion closed in 1966 due to low enrollment rates within the district it opened up again in 1984 under new leadership with then Superintendent Bob Sheppard leading what eventually became Westside Middle School before moving into its current building across Saginaw Street from Eastern Market Place just south of Monroe Boulevard on July 1st 1997 During that same year also begins construction on what would become known simply as "The House" or "East Pointe Town Hall" which would house all city services such as police officers/firefighters/code enforcement etc.; this building still stands today along Woodward Avenue near Saginaw Street just north of Monroe Boulevard serving both functions today

Eastpointe is a town in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 6,362 at the 2010 census. Eastpointe is one of the most populous villages in Wayne County and it is also the most diverse community in the county. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Eastpointe were French fur traders from Quebec. French traders built their first trading post on what is now US-23 near present-day Eastpointe Township on November 12, 1796. The post was abandoned after only a few months because of Indian attacks. In 1812, Colonel Gabriel Morin organized a militia unit known as "The Legionnaires" and acquired land east of today's village center on which he erected a plantation called "Mandalay". Morin named his plantation after British general James Young Manasseh Marcy who had surrendered at Yorktown Heights during the American Revolution. When General George Washington visited Eastern Michigan in 1813, he met with Morin and complimented him on his ""trees that reach to heaven""—an allusion to Marcy's plantations where trees reached heights of up to 20 feet (6 m). In 1821, John Coleman established the first store in what is now Eastpointe when he opened an establishment called Coleman's Store and Warehouse on Main Street northeast of today's Village Hall building. Coleman became so successful that within two years he had developed a large stockyard and began shipping goods by boat directly from Detroit to Cleveland and other eastern markets. In 1824, Coleman moved his business across the river into what is now downtown Dearbornville for better water access and increased profits from sales abroad. By 1830, Wolverine Amusement Park had been built alongpresent-day Gratiot Avenue east of downtown Dearbornville for operations such as fairs and exhibitions featuring animals such as camels or horses; this amusement park was one of several precursor amusement parks development along Gratiot Avenue during this period including defunct Second City Park (later renamed Ford Field) south of Courtland Boulevard north of I-75 between Woodward Avenue and Van Ness Road; White Sands Resort & Casino located adjacent to today’s University District near State Route 360 east of Woodward Avenue; Ascot Racecourse located adjacent to today’s Stadium district just northwest of I-75 northexit ramps off I-275 North; Pleasant Ridge Golf Course located adjacent Rosesbury Road just westof Ottawa Street between Woodward Aveand Ottawa St.; Carriage Place amusement park located northwestof Ottawa Street between Woodward Aveand Ottawa St., southeastof Clairton Road between Washtenaw Rdand US HWY 12 about midway between Detroit & Cleveland airports; Lakeshore Lighthouse situated northeastof Ottawa Street between Woodward Aveand Washtenaw Rd., southwestofthe Yonge Rdbetween Ontario Rd& Clairton Rd.,just north o f Manton Dr.; Erie Canal filled with sandbags usedto block falls upstreamduring construction
The town of Eastpointe was founded in 1824 by the brothers Isaac and Jacob Van Dyke. It became a village in 1834, and then a city in 1865. The city was destroyed by fire in 1868, but it was rebuilt and renamed Eastpointe after the town.
