Eastpointe, Michigan is home to many businesses and industries that have their roots in the military. Many of these businesses are still in operation today and contribute to the community by providing local jobs and revenue. One such business is Eastern Arms Ammunition, which has been in business since 1892. Eastpointe also played a role in the development of the United States military. In 1865, General George Armstrong Custer was killed during a skirmish with Native Americans at Little Bighorn Creek near Eastpointe. This event led to America’s first war for independence and helped create the American Military System. The military has also played a significant role in Eastpointe’s economy ever since. In 1954, Eastern Arms Ammunition became one of the first companies to sign an agreement with United States Department of Defense called “Annex I Glebe Arsenal Agreement” which allowed them to produce ammunition for the US Armed Forces on behalf of DOD agencies- including The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). As well as this, Eastern Arms Ammunition has worked closely with numerous other government organizations over the years, most notably The Pentagon Papers Project which aimed to release classified documents from The Pentagon before they were destroyed. Today, Eastern Arms Ammunition continues its partnership with government entities through its subsidiary company Armorama Incorporated who manufactures infantry weapons systems for both US militaries and foreign governments alike.

Eastpointe is a city in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 24,594 at the 2010 census. The city is part of the Detroit Metropolitan Area. Eastpointe was founded in 1871 by George Eastman and other pioneers as an agricultural community on a bluff overlooking the Rouge River. It became one of the most important commercial and industrial centers in Michigan during the 19th century. In 1914, it was merged with Dearborn to form theDetroit metropolitan area. In 1927, Eastpointe lost its independence when it was merged into Dearborn; however, it retains its nickname of "The Jewel City". Today, Eastpointe is an economic engine for much of Wayne County and has emerged as a leaders inesselment for technology and business development.
The first permanent European settlement in what is now Eastpointe was a fur trading post established by French colonists in 1790. The area became known as the Montrose Purchase, and later as part of the Marquette Strip. In 1804, the United States acquired land east of the Mackinac Bridge from the British Empire in what is now Michigan. This land included parts of present-day Eastpointe and other townships in Wayne County. The United States bought additional land to formthe Mackinac National Forest in 1912. In 1915, Eastpointe's first school opened with grades K-8. In 1922, Eastpointe's first hospital opened with diagnosis and treatment for acute diseases such as tuberculosis and pneumonia. That same year, the MCI transportation system began service to Eastpointe from Detroit. In 1925, a oil refinery was built on the site of today's Saginaw Airpark on the eastern edge of town. Eastpointe experienced significant growth during World War II as local manufacturers produced munitions and vehicles for US forces fighting in Europe and Asia. More than 50 businesses were founded during World War II in downtown Eastpointe; many remain active today including several that are part of The Grosse Pointes Association (TPA). During World War II also, nearby Saginaw became an important manufacturing center for American military production due to its proximity to Ford Motor Company plants west of Dearborn Heights and its access to natural resources such as Oil Sands Fields adjacent to Saginaw Bayou
