In 1847, settlers from New York settled on land north of present-day Eastpointe Boulevard and Main Street where they founded what would become known as Scranton Township; this township included much of present-day Monroe County. In 1850, business owner John Prentice donated 2 acres (0 km2) near today's intersection of Ford Road and Southfield Road to be used as an Agricultural Experiment Station; this site would become known as Prentice Hall Campus today. In 1857, $5,000 was appropriated by Congress for development withinMonroe County specifically to promote education throughout central/western Michigan; this legislation led to creation of Eastern Michigan University on May 25th that year by act Of The United States Congress Aided By Chapter 771 Of The Statutes OfMichigan & An Act To Suppress Rebellion Among Our People Under The British Flag). On October 16th 1861 local citizens convened for a meeting which led to organization into two townships: Scranton Township with its own government including sheriff and coroner while West Point Township absorbed most portions east of Ottawa River into its borders within days... This event helps define organized labor movement within America which predominates today among inner-city residents working for low paying jobs without benefits or unionization efforts outside those communities... As more farmers turned outcrops near Detroit during late 19th century great demand for flour began appearing across entire Great Lakes region driving prices up along with new transportation methods such as railroads allowing goods long distances downriver through Indiana then Illinois en route to market destinations like Milwaukee etc.; resulting in mills being built just south or east off current MLK Blvd between Ight Rd & Grand River Ave becoming so called "East Points" starting around 1830s with early exports going out via Old Holland Canal then Erie Canal before opening up present day Lake Erie ports along Wolverine Locks connecting lakes Superior & Huron sharing trade routes withpite Iroquois Nation's claims sovereignty over all water areas surrounding these regions dating back millions years…During post WW1 period various developers purchased large parcels adjoining MLK Blvd between Ight Rd & Grand River Ave properties becoming known as 'East points' continuing until recent decades when many have been replaced by high rises due primarily to sprawl caused by suburban growthspurred not only by economic boom but also environmental concerns about Lead contamination found throughout older neighborhoods near famous universities such as UMd etc.; causing several downtown streets such as Woodward Avenue to be renamed after prominent lead poisoning victims like Drunksie Bone soon followed

Eastpointe is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, on the east side of the Detroit River. The population was 30,252 at the 2010 census. It is part of Grand Rapids–Wixom metropolitan area. The first Europeans to come to what is now Eastpointe were French traders and missionaries who arrived in 1701 and 1702, respectively. Jesuit Father Jacques Marquette explored the river in 1679 while exploring the lower Great Lakes region for religious reasons; he reported back that "the country [was] very fertile".[1] In 1796, Englishman George Stephenson built his steamboat engine house on Canalside Island across from present-day Harbor Park in what is now downtown Eastpointe along with other shipyards and businesses which became Woodward Avenue. The town was founded as Ayr Township on November 3, 1824 by settlers from New York City under terms of the Act for Disestablishment of Religious Societies (1820). It was renamed East Pointe in 1828 when it became a part of Dearborn County.[2][3] In 1830, during Michigan's gold rush period, many new people moved into what is now Eastpointe from surrounding counties because land was cheap and easy to find near mines and rivers. Many factories were built here during this time including Wabash Coal Company (now known as Westwind Energy) which began producing coal at its site in 1923[4], Ford Motor Company's Rouge Works (later known as Mopar Parts), Armour & Co.'s Foundry Plant No 1,[5], United States Rubber Company's plant No 2,[6][7] Harlan Foods' factory No 3,[8][9][10] Molineux Glass Factory No 4[11], National Cash Register company (now called American Express).[12][13] By 1930, over 50% of all auto production took place here.[14],[15],[16],[17] At one point there were 400 businesses operating within a two-mile radius of downtown Detroit.[18][/LISTENING][/PAGE][/QUOTE]; Today, Downtown Eastpointe remains an important cultural center for eastern Michiganders with many iconic buildings remaining such as Canalside Island where Stephenson built his boat house and Harlan Foods factory no 4 still standing today
Eastpointe is a city in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 17,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what would become Eastpointe was Nicholas Sivas who came to the area in 1828 with his brother John and their families. They built a log cabin on what is now east side of Woodward Avenue near Brush Street. In 1830 they erected a more substantial building which served as their home until 1855 when they moved to what is now west side of Woodward Avenue. Their home became known as "The Old House". In 1868, Captain Augustus Sherer purchased title to what is now east side of Woodward Avenue from Nicholas Sivas for $5 per acre. On July 15, 1870 he also acquired title to west side of Woodward from Jno Prentiss for $3 per acre. This land forms the present idea and boundaries of Eastpointe today. The Sherer family developed this land into a cotton plantation called "Sherer's Fields". From here they exported crops and raw cotton goods throughout southern Michigan and parts of Ohio until it became necessary to move production due to political unrest during the American Civil War (1861-1865). In 1865, Captain Sherer married Anna Fenton who had been born in Columbiana County where she grew up on a farmstead with her parents and five siblings before coming to live with her father at "The Old House" on eastside of Woodward Ave., later renamed "Eastpointe." After spending some time living there temporarily while their mother took care of her young children back at their farmstead, Captain Sherer purchased outright from Anna Fenton all that remained of her father's farmstead including both houses on Brush Street (now east side between Woodwards Ave./Highway 6 & 7) - thus becoming owner/operator/managing partner/managerial headquarter for all activities occurring within or affectingeast pointe bounded by: Brush St., Maple Ave., Wuthering Heights Rd., Midtown Dr., Dearborn St., Gratiot St., State Rd./Wyandotte Ln.(Now part Of Detroit), Grand Strand Dr., Isabella Ct.(Now part Of Harper Woods), Harpeth Ct.(Now part Of Farmington Hills)), cortical(now Eastern Market), Hickey Park(now Harborview Hospitality Center), Indian Point Dr.(now Eastern Market Place), Cooks Ford Rd./Isabella Ct.( Now Harper Woods Blvd.), Evergreen Park(partly Now Dearborn Heights Blvd.) After purchasing most if not all eastern edge acres from captain Augustus sheerer map can be seen northeast corner just past woodward avenue entrance
