Eastpointe is a city in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 26,824 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city and county seat of Wayne County by land area. The area now known as Eastpointe was first settled by the Potawatomi in 1788. In 1814, a post office was established at Eastpointe, and the town began to grow. By 1828, Eastpointe had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1847, the Michigan State Road Company was chartered, and Eastpointe became its first township. The township's first mayor was John A. Mason. In 1892, the village ofEastpointe merged with the township to form the city ofEast Pointe Heights. In 1968, the city merged with Ypsilanti to become Metropolitan Detroit Area.
