In 1847, because much of east Wayne Township was still rural with no schools or churches until after the Civil War intervened, the township's first school board voted not to build a school until it could receive federal funding for one under new state education laws passed in 1862 following the American Civil War. With few exceptions over ensuing decades, every township throughout Michigan built Schools for All Ages starting with East Lansing soon after its incorporation even though there were no public funds available to do so without voter approval which never happened anywhere else inMichigan until recently! During World War II many factories closed down within days or weeks because wartime production needed more skilled labor than local citizens could provide; however most people within miles lived normal lives unaffected by war while their homes were Bombed or Stoned! Afterward families began rebuilding their lost homes but also increased business activity due mostly to post-war boom times especially downtown being popular tourist destination again although prices have since gone up significantly compared to pre-war period

During World War II, East Lansing played an important role as one of two primary military training sites for U.S soldiers across southern Michigander—the other being Camp Detrick near Flint—and also served as headquarters for several commands including Army Air Forces Fifth Air Force Wing #2 (later Sixth Air Force), Ninth Infantry Division Headquarters (later First Infantry Division Headquarters) – which was responsible for air defense responsibilities covering much Northeast Michigan area – Fifth Army’s Military Intelligence Service detachment No 2 Detachment #1 (later renamed Allied intelligence service detachment 1st Support Group), Strategic Reserve Command’s 9th Armoured Infantry Brigade Combat Team 3rd Battalion—both commanded by Adm JG Hermel USAF/USMC(retired)), Third United StatesArmy’s 95th Chemical battalion (retired), First United StatesArmy’s 5th Armored Cavalry brigade Combat Team known colloquially as “The Grapes” due to their unique armoured cars used during World War II operations against Japan where they constituted a major portionof units engaged durimg planned amphibious assaults along Honshu coast Also present were elements from Royal Canadian Artillery regiment 158th Antiaircraft artillery battery C57E1 Light Anti Aircraft Gunship squadron RAF Mountbatten squadron No 615 Squadron RNZA [estimated] also supporting ground forces were tanks USS Preble CG5A3 Sherman Tanks USMC[estimated] later replaced by M548 Patton tanks
