After 1945 much residential development occurred inside City Limits which isolated downtown from what had once been vibrant commercial district called "The Corners" along 14th Street NW between First Avenue NE and 2nd Avenue NE. Today there are several blocks within walking distance of each other where formerly separate neighborhoods now share commonalities including public transportation options (including MARTA) shopping malls with high-end stores opened since 2000 adjacent to Interstate 94 freeway Exit 221 providing easy access to I-94 northbound while businesses continue to grow along Woodward Avenue west of I-94
