Henson dedicated the first public building located inside current State Capitol Complex consisting of two stories high with drive through entrance - this structure was soon followed by a library which opened its doors on September 3rd 1895 . On November 6th 1896 construction began on Grammar School Annex , later known as East Grand Rapids High School serving students attending grades 7th-12th along with district staff members until 1922 when it merged into nearby Centralia High School . That school building remained standing until demolished during last decade’s renovation project adjacent to First Christian Church property line . During that time frame over 350 students attended EGHHS from Grades 7th-12th housed within numerous classrooms , hallways and restrooms found within three levels plus basement . Plus several attached garages utilized during lean seasons for storage purposes less than one half mile distant from original campus location Today only one level remains remaining aboveground providing limited access for pedestrians currently wheelchair accessible due mainly because raised walkway running perpendicular top level obstructs view no matter how high up one tries
