In 1847, Lansing Township was organized from part of Monroe Township along with other townships within Wayne County including Dearborn Heights and Southfield while still being under botkin's jurisdiction because Lansing Township formed too late for Saint Clair Township which had been organized two years earlier (June 10, 1846). In 1850-1851, Rochester Township also formed from parts of Vanderbiltshire (now Park City) and Houghton Charter Townships within Wayne County - all three areas were then annexed into Detroit due to increased population growth in those districts resulting from American settlement following the Mexican-American War. Detroit annexions increased total land area under US jurisdiction in Michigan by almost 100 square miles compared to just 21 square miles under British jurisdiction during this time period - an indication that US authorities viewedMichigan as strategic territory important for future expansion into Canada or Ohio beyond the Great Lakes region. In 1860-1861, Rochester Township reorganized as Clinton Township when its boundaries were enlarged by adding muchneeded acreage surrounding the town of Clinton – making it one of only two townships statewide to do so during this time period!Clinton soon became a bustling center for industry thanks to its location close to major transportation hubs including: Gratiot Avenue on Detroit’s south side; Mackinac Bridge across Lake Huron east of downtown; and Ionia Road running north/south through town connecting all these hubs).
