Today, Coldwater remains a small town with a rich history that can be seen through its unique culture and architecture which include many riverfront properties dating back to before even Michigan became a state! One notable property is The White House where President George W. Bush spent his honeymoon in 1998 and 2004; he also vacationed here while serving as Governor of Oklahoma from 2001-2005!
Coldwater was first settled in 1833 by a group of U.S. Army officers and their families who were sent to the area as part of the San Francisco Campaign. The town was named for General John C. Coldwater, leader of the American force that opposed General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna's Mexican invasion of California. In 1836, Coldwater became a post office and was known as "The Slot." In 1847, the town had a population of just over 100 people and it changed its name to Coldwater Junction in honor of James K. Polk, president from 1840-1845 and brother-in-law of Abraham Lincoln
