In the early 1800s, people in Coldwater County Wyoming were using firearms to hunt game. One of the first gun enthusiasts in the area was Johnnie Barnes, who bought a rifle in 1853. He began shooting at local deer and turkey ranges and soon had a collection of firearms. In 1892, Barnes moved to Coldwater County Michigan and started buying land for hunting purposes. He built several ranches which allowed him to raise deer, bear, pheasant and other game. In 1896, Barnes donated his rifles and pistols to the Michiganders Arms Company in Coldwater City as a gift for their establishment. The company made T-shirts with this history and gave them out as gifts to customers. The company continued making these shirts until it dissolved in 1933.

Coldwater is a small town in Washtenaw County, Michigan. The population was 2,521 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Milton area. The first people to live in what is now Coldwater were the Potters in 1824 and the Smiths in 1830. They were followed by the McKennas in 1836, who were Scottish-American settlers from Glasgow, Scotland. In 1868, John Prentice opened a store on Main Street which became a popular stopping place for travelers on their way to Mackinac Island and other points north. In 1886, Jno Hutton built an opera house on Factory Street which still stands today as a commercial landmark. In 1906, with the construction of US 31 east of Coldwater along with other new routes opening up during World War I, Coldwater began to experience rapid growth as an agricultural community with businesses like Ford Motor Company and Sears Roebuck opening up shop there. During this time also came significant changes for Coldwater as it saw its first African American resident when Cicely Tyson arrived from Detroit to start her own grocery store called Tyson's Department Store in 1924. During World War II, much of what is now downtown was destroyed bybombing raids but due to donations from local citizens and volunteers efforts such as rebuilding Main Street almost everything has come back since then! Some notable landmarks during this time include: The First Methodist Church (1946), The White Memorial Chapel (1947), The Second Baptist Church (1948), The Masonic Lodge #2 (1949), The First United Methodist Church (1950). Today, Coldwater remains largely rural with most residents working within agriculture or other related industries; however there are some recent development projects including: A new elementary school located just west of town off US 31; A new library/cafeteria complex that opened in 2007 upstream from town center; and renovation work being done on several historic buildings including First Presbyterian Church (#1) and White Memorial Chapel (#2).

Coldwater is a town in the east-central part of Michigan, United States. The population was 5,910 at the 2010 census. It is the only town in Shiawassee County and it is also the only township in Muskegon County. Coldwater is bordered by Muskegon Heights to the north and east, Wyoming to the south, Geneva to the west and southeast, and Grand Rapids to the northwest. The first European settler in what is now Coldwater was George Armstrong Custer who arrived on July 8, 1835. At that time there were just a few hundred people living in what are nowMuskegon Township and Shiawassee County. rapid growth from industry led to an increase in population from 745 residents in 1850 to 2,635 by 1880. In 1905 it had reached 4,000 residents but fell back to 3,898 by 1910 due largely to World War I disruptions which ledto a decline of industry and jobs throughout most of Michigan during that period. In 1920 when Coolwater became a township it marked another significant milestone for Coldwater as it became one of seventy-eight townships statewide created under new state legislation following prohibition repeal across much of Michigan. As such Coldwater retained its position as an important economic center within Shiawassee County for many years after becoming part of Muskegon County proper through annexation efforts with other municipalities over time including Albion Park (1948), Ford Heights (1962), Washtenaw Heights (1976), East Lansing (1983) and Southfield Township (2005). Despite this relative stability over time some major changes have occurred through annexation or absorption into other municipalities however withstanding: all local school districts were merged into Muskegon Central School District effective September 1st 2002; all fire services were transferred from Shiawassee Township Fire Department(s) into Muskegan Central District on October 1st 2006; several businesses including two banks closed their doors following consolidation within MCHD; several houses located adjacent to MCHD Campus were sold off post haste followed by conversion into apartments/condo’s primarily attributable due principal issues associated with those conversions especially groundwater recharge rates which continue today albeit at lower levels; numerous small businesses have relocated within current boundaries resulting both positive developments for residents adjacent thereto as well as increased accessibility inside/outside MCHD Campus notwithstanding smaller lots currently available on site
Coldwater was founded in 1834 by John Stephenson and others. The town was named for the cold water discovered in nearby Coldwater Creek. In 1836, Stephenson erected a log cabin on the site of what is now the old Post Office. The first postmaster was James Halliday, who served from 1837 to 1840. In 1848, Coldwater became a village and received city status in 1861. It experienced an influx of refugees from the American Civil War and other conflicts during the years following its incorporation. By 1898, Coldwater had a population of 2,500 people and it had purchased land east of downtown for housing developments that would become known as "the Loop." The current downtown district was built starting in 1961 as part of an effort to revive downtown Coldwater with new architecture, businesses, and entertainment options.
