The town of Coldwater in Michigan was founded in 1834. It is the oldest community in the state of Michigan and is also one of the most longstanding communities in the United States. The original inhabitants of Coldwater were Native Americans who used the area for hunting, fishing, and raiding. In 1834, a group of Dutch settlers arrived in what is now Coldwater and began to build a settlement. By 1840, the town had been established as an agricultural society with about seventy residents. In 1847, the first post office was established in Coldwater and by 1850, it had become a small village with about fifty residents. growth stagnated until around 1870 when a new railroad line was built through the town and new businesses began to open up. By 1900, there were more than two thousand residents living in Coldwater. The population peaked at over four thousand during World War II when it increased by almost eighty percent due to wartime demand for military goods and services

The first European settlers in what is now Coldwater were French Canadian voyageurs who came to Michigania in 1810 to chart new land for Canada. They named their community "Le Hochelaga." Pleasant that played key roles in providing food, munitions and other essential services to General Eisenhower's army during its amphibious invasions of Normandy and southern France In 1939, Coldwater's economy was rocked by World War II when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor and America entered into war against Japan After spending more than $1 million producing munitions for America during World War II, Coldwater's economy slowed after the war but has slowly recovered since then thanks to various businesses such as aluminum smelters, petrochemical plants and multiple car dealerships Today Coldwater is known for its annual ice festival which draws some 1 million people every year

The town of Coldwater, Michigan was founded in 1834 by a group of pioneers who came from New York City. The people of Coldwater were farmers and their families until the late 1800s when the railroad arrived and changed the life of the town. The first train to come through Coldwater Depot arrived on December 5, 1835. The town quickly began to grow as businesses opened up and people started coming to live here. By 1908,Coldwater had a population of over 1,000 people. The first post office in Coldwater was established in 1836 and it served the community for six years. In 1852, a new post office was built at what is now United States Highway 12. By 1915, there were twelve postal stations in Coldwater with service available 24/7. During World War II, Coldwater played an important role as one of the military installations in the area. More than 2,500 soldiers were stationed here during the war and many buildings such as the Post Office and jail remain standing today! Today,Coldwater is still a thriving community with many businesses open and residents living close by for easy access to all that the city has to offer!
The area now encompassing Coldwater was first settled by the Ojibwe in the late 18th century. The first white settler in what is now Coldwater Township was Nicholas Weiland, who arrived in 1788. By 1800, a small community had developed around the mill on the banks of the Shiawassee River. In 1812, a post office was established at Coldwater and began serving residents of both townships. A school was also established in that year. Throughout most of its history, Coldwater Township served as a rural outpost located between Lansing and Detroit. It wasn't until after World War II thatColdwater began to experience significant population growth as various industries shifted their operations to the township. In 1957, construction began on the present-day courthouse complex within the township boundaries; this development would later become one of Michigan's top tourist attractions. In recent years, however, township officials have been working to redevelop key aspects of their community including increasing access to public transportation and creating new cultural experiences such as arts festivals and music events.
