Clawson is a small town in the central Michigan area, located about two hours east of Lansing. The community was founded in 1881 by local farmers and lumbermen, and has since been home to a number of businesses, including Clawson Rifle & Pistol Supply Company. The company was founded by John Clawson, who operated it until his death in 1945. It is now owned by his grandson, Don Clawson. The first rifle stocks were cast from blueprints or drawings that John Clawson created himself. He designed what are known as "claw-style" stocks, which featured a pronounced claw at the top of the stock for stability when holding the rifle. The design soon became popular with shooters, and was adopted by many other gunsmiths across America. Over time, new designs were developed for rifles using claw-stylestocks. One such innovation was the Viper stock (named after George Viperidis), which featured an ergonomic grip that made it easier to hold and fire the rifle. Clawson is part of the Muskegon Heights Community School District. The history of Clawson goes back to 1837 when John Clawson and his wife Anna founded a trading post on what is now Clawson Township. In 1851, they moved their business to where it still stands today- on State Road 5 near present day White Lake. The post office operated until 1893. In 1901, John and Anna's son George Washington Clawson became proprietor of the business and continued running it until his death in 1957. After George Washington's death, ownership passed through several hands before it came into the current ownership of Mrs. Louise Grosse in 1978-1980. Since its establishment as a village, Clawson has experienced many changes - including a major influx of refugees following World War II which gave rise to new businesses and housing developments in nearby towns such as Mount Pleasant and East Lansing; as well as increased traffic due to expanding highway transportation options throughout the area during the late 1800s; and most recently, with growth in hunting and fishing tourism opportunities having led to more people moving into or visiting Clawson since 2000s.

Clawson is a small town in Muskegon County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,512 at the 2010 census. Clawson's history dates back to 1836 when it was known as Chenango Township. It was first organized as a village on December 14, 1881. In 1902, Clawson became a city and has since grown to be one of the largest towns in Muskegon County with over 12,000 residents. The town is named after J. W. Clawson who donated land for its founding and served as its first mayor from 1836-1839 and again from 1850-1851. The original town site was located on the east side of Chenango River between present day State Route 9 north and State Route 24 south (now Beltline Road). During the early 1800s the Chenango River was a major waterway connecting eastern Michigan with Indiana and other states including Ohio and Illinois. As this river changed hands many times during its lifetime it lost some of its importance until it regained some importance during the late 1800s when railways began developing in that region. In 1836, two brothers by the name of John Fenton bought 800 acres (30 km2) around what is now Clawson from Nicholas Bemis for $5 per acre ($100 total). John Fenton used his land to start an agricultural enterprise which he called "Fenton's Farms". After several years of success he sold his property in 1840 to Elisha Peck for $10 per acre ($160 total). Abraham Peck ran this farm until his death in 1865 when it passed onto his son Jacob who continued running it until 1893 when it merged into Armour Manufacturing Company's Muskegon division which Owned & operated various mills throughout Michigan including one at Clawson where they manufactured shoes before moving out East to Springfield NJ in 1907 finally closing down due to low demand & cost associated with large storage capacity within their plants; however remnants remain today as part of Saginaw Valley Mills Museums adjacent to Mott Haven Mall (@SaginawValleyMuseum)
Clawson was founded in 1831 by Samuel Clawson and his family. The town became an important manufacturing center during the early years of Michigan's industrialization. In 1907, Clawson was renamed to Midland after the Midland Railway arrived in the town to help promote local industry.
