Clawson is a small town in the southeast corner of Michigan, about 20 miles south of Detroit. The community was founded in 1871 by farmers and their families who followed the recommendations of the committee that studied gun control in anticipation of the American Civil War. The first handguns were manufactured here, and until recently, Clawson's only means of self-defense was with shotguns.
