Clawson is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,529 at the 2010 census. Clawson is part of the Muskegon-area and is bordered by Muskegon Heights to the east, Royal Oak to the north, and Oakland Township to the west. The first settlers in what is now Clawson were fur traders from Canada who named their land "Clawson" after one of their members, Hugh Clawson. They started trading with Indians and selling goods such as furs and beaver skins. In 1824, John Sutter founded Sutter's Fort on what is now US-131 in what are now Royal Oak and Oakland Townships. He built a fortuitous location because it was then possible for him to trade goods with both Indian groups without running into conflicts that could have damaging consequences for his business ventures. By 1830, many other farmers had moved into Clawson from various parts of Michigan & Ohio due to cheap farmland being available near Detroit & other major cities during this time period*. By the late 1990s, Colt had become one of the most popular producers of ar15 upper receivers because of their innovative designs and quality products. Clawson is a small town in the U.S. state of Michigan. Founded in 1867 by John A. Clawson, the community was named for him and his brother, George W. Clawson. The settlement was first located on the banks of the Detroit River, but it relocated to its current location in 1881 when land on which it stood became available after being donated by Governor Lewis Cass. The population of Clawson was 1,564 at the 2000 census; it has since declined to 947 as of 2016. Clawson is one of only a few towns in Michigan that still retains original buildings from prior years; these include a Masonic lodge, a Baptist church and an old schoolhouse (now used as a daycare). In addition to its historical significance, Clawson has also been known for its annual claw-biting contests which are one of the most popular events in the town's calendar.
Clawson is a city in the Muskegon County, Michigan local government area, and part of the Flint metropolitan area. The population was 27,691 at the 2010 census. Clawson is located on Saginaw River southeast of Flint. The first settler in Clawson was James A. Clawson who came to the area in 1836. In 1840, John Purdy settled in Clawson after traveling from Canada through the Great Lakes region looking for land to settle. He founded a log cabin on what is now State Street just east of Main Street. In 1848, William Hering established a fur-trading post near present day Midland Avenue and Huron Road south of downtown Clawson. Hering's post served as an important trade center for fur buyers and sellers along both sides of the river until his business stopped operations around 1858 due to financial troubles. In 1860, Michael Fenton set up a tannery on Elmira Street north of town centre; it became one of the largest tanneries in Northwest Michigan and continues operation today as Fenton's Tannery LLC.. Fenton also donated land to build what is now Morningside Cemetery which opened its doors in 1865. The following year saw another milestone when Normal School (now University Heights) was chartered by state legislature with instruction offered from Tarrytown College (now Western Michigan University). Normal School moved into its current building on Elmira Place east side of Main Street in 1870 after years of construction delays caused by funding shortages during Reconstruction Era America – this marked not onlyNormal School's first permanent home but also its first use as an undergraduate college campus outside New England/Upper Midwest Region."
