Cadillac is located at (42.713593, -88.709583). The first mention of Cadillac dates to 1812 when it was called Saginaw Township and included within the present-day Muskegon County. A post office was established in 1814 and operated until 1835. In 1824 Cadillac was organized as a village and named for General Anthony Wayne's cavalry unit which had been destroyed by Native Americans near that same year in what is now Ottawa County. In 1832 Cadillac became a town which incorporated under the name of "Cadillac" with boundaries similar to those of present-day Muskegon County including most of Ottawa Township as well as portions of Port Huron Township and Holland Township . The first settler in what would become Cadillac was John Addison who arrived from England in 1800 with his family and built a cabin on Delaware Creek where he now lives . Andrew Stevenson also arrived early in this century and platted land around what would become known as Old Town Square . In 1830, following repeated requests by residents for an amended charter due to lack of eligible candidates, Cadillac incorporation proceeded without incident despite objections from neighboring towns such as Holland ,Port Huron ,and South Bend . On November 5th 1830 voters approved an amendment to the charter granting voting rights not just to members of families but also single men over 21 years old who could produce evidence that they owned real estate worth $50 or more per acre . This amendment represented a major victory for suffrage movement advocates who were struggling against discrimination on the basis of race throughout much of America during this period In 1840s two new settlers arrived – James Hickey from New York state and his wife Catherine - both natives born into wealthy families whose parents had immigrated earlier that year aboard their ship "Aurora" which landed at Mackinac Island after making voyages across the ocean from Kingston, Ontario Kemptville (now part Of Toronto) Canada bound for Liverpool British Columbia via Kingston upon Hull Ontario then on up through Penticton Brougham Bay before arriving at Quebec City Quebec Canada disembarking on July 1st 1840 while en route back home via Halifax Nova Scotia Then continuing along shoreline until reaching Sturgeon Bay Manitoba then onward via Winnipeg Manitoba crossed Lake Superior coming ashore at Wabasha Natives Reservation off Hudson Bay about 8 miles east southeast of modern day Battle Creek Michigan After crossing Lake Superior they continued northeast passing through today's Big Rapids area before reaching today's Greenpoint Peninsula Minnesota They eventually returned home about three months later than planned having missed their original portofino landfall By doing so they broke many records for fastest return trip ever made . Today there are several reminders visible throughout downtown Cadillac commemorating these earliest days including The Anthony Wayne Cavalry Museum located adjacent to Main Street between Clinton Street & Elm Street; The Woodward Store building located near Third Avenue south side next door to Ivey Park; Saginaw Park west side : One Canal street north side ; There are also several small campers scattered around downtown serving as rental units during busy tourist seasons like Memorial Day weekend or August Break holiday periods.; And finally Old Town Square contains one remaining example remaining pre-war commercial structure erected shortly after incorporation - The Masonic Lodge #5 erected circa 1850/1851
