The first Cadillac Mounted Police Department was organized in 1892. The department served a specific area of Cadillac, Michigan and only lasted for one year. In 1903 the Cadillac detachment of the Detroit branch of the Canadian National Railway hired two mounted policemen to serve as officers on their railway property in Cadillac. This detachment continued to exist until 1922. In 1924, the first cruiser for the purpose of mounting police vehicles was purchased by the department and it continued service until 1959.

Cadillac, Michigan is a town in Washtenaw County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Cadillac is located on the east bank of the Big Detroit River, about 12 miles southeast of Detroit and about 20 miles west of Grand Rapids. It was founded in 1824 by General David Dixon as a trading post on the Ottawa River. The school first fielded a football program in 1875 under coach Thaddeus Stevens; however, it did not become a varsity sport until 1903. In 2003–2004, Wayne State won its first bowl game since joining Division I-A as they defeated then-No. 3 Ohio State 16-7 in their Fiesta Bowl appearance at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego California;[1] this victory marked also the first time that Wayne State had played against top NCAA Divisions opposition since joining Division I-A as well as being one win away from reaching their second straight championship game.[2][3]
In 1836, Cadillac was founded as a small Village on the east side of the Detroit River. The first post office in Cadillac opened in 1837. In 1840, Cadillac became a Township under the jurisdiction of Wayne County. On November 4, 1850, the township was renamed to Cadillac after General Anthony Wayne and his army invaded Canada during the American Civil War. Cadillac experienced rapid growth from its incorporation until the late 1800s when it began to decline due to economic reasons such asrising transportation costs and population growth around Detroit. However, during World War II, Cadillac emerged as a major center for munitions production with many factories built there including Chrysler and Ford Motor Company plants that played an important role in Allied war efforts. In 1990, Cadillac was merged into neighboring Oakland Township effective January 1st of that year.
