The first firearms manufactured in Cadillac, Michigan were a shotgun and rifle. The first handgun was also manufactured here in 1870. In 1894, the city of Cadillac became the county seat for Wayne County and firearm manufacturing ceased there. However, this did not stop gun enthusiasts from coming to Cadillac to purchase firearms. In 1935, the city of Cadillac passed an ordinance that required all handguns must be registered with the city government and sold at a local gun shop. This ordinance helped prevent crime in Cadillac as criminals knew that they would not be able to buy guns if they could not openly sell them.

In 1892, prohibition led to Americana being produced here instead of in Toronto or Cleveland because American consumers could afford it more easily than imported products from Europe. The city quickly emerged as one of America's leading wine production centers and also became an important automobile manufacturing center during World War II with such brands as Chevrolet and Ford producing pivotal vehicles for military use. Cadillac is a city in Oakland County, Michigan, United States. The population was 31,564 at the 2010 census. Cadillac was founded in 1881 by Henry Cadet and his wife Anna Cadet as a trading post on the Muskegon River. The name "Cadillac" first appeared on an Ohio patent application filed by John Fitch in 1837. In 1881, Cadillacpost office opened with mail from Detroit and other Midwestern cities including Chicago and Milwaukee. In 1902, Cadillac became a full-fledged town when it merged with nearby Grand Rapids. The name "Cadillac" originated from the fact that the first car to be manufactured in Cadillac was a model called the "Cadillacs of America". In 1925, Cadillac's first grocery store opened; it would remain its mainstay until Recent Developments closed it down in 1964. A new grocery store, open since 1959, replaced Recently Developments and is still operating today. The original processing plant for GM's Opel division (now known as General Motors) was located here until 1967 when it moved to Flint Hills outside of Lansing due to pollution concerns. Today there are three museums within walking distance of downtown: Cadillac Museum of Art (opened in 1951), Grand Rapids History Museum (opened in 1984), andMuskegon Heights Historical Society (opened in 1975). There are also several restaurants within walking distance including Nobu Matsuhisa's Japanese restaurant and Caffe Nero Italian espresso bar which overlooks Muskegon Heights Boulevard
Cadillac was founded in 1892 as a small factory town in the Michigan township of Cadillac. The town grew rapidly during the early years of Cadillac's existence, and by 1916 it had become an important center for manufacturing cars and trucks. In 1925, Cadillac became part of the newly formed United States Automobiles Company, which grew to become one of the largest manufacturers of automobiles in the world. The company continue to make vehicles until it was sold to Procter & Gamble in 1957.
