Burton, Michigan is a town in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 5,693 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Wolverine metropolitan area. The Township of Burton was organized on October 14, 1814 and named for General Robert Burton. Burton's first settler was James Dixon who arrived in 1824 with his family from Kentucky. He built a cabin on the east side of what is now North Main Street. The first store in Burton opened its doors on December 12, 1827. In 1830 John Condon opened a general store on South Main Street which became the town's main business artery until it closed in 1907 when it merged with nearby Holland to form Grand Rapids-Wolverine. The townsite of Burton was laid out by George Stephenson between 1814 and 1816 as part of his survey for the current township boundaries. The township was organized on October 14, 1818 under state senator David Wilcox and named for General Robert Burton who died at rather than see Fort Mackinac fall into French hands during the War of1812. The initial plat for present day Burton included land off East Park Road which became known as "Dixon's Corner". Burton, Michigan is a small town in the Eastern Michigan University District of Macomb County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. Burton was founded in 1852 by Nathaniel Burton and his family. It became a city on July 1, 1957. Nathaniel Burton was born on December 4, 1811 in Hartford, Connecticut to Samuel Burton and Rebecca Woodbury Burton. He came to Detroit with his parents when he was two years old and started school there as an eighth grader. When he was ten years old, Nathaniel married Sarah Ann Marchand (1815-1902). They had six children: Samuel (1849-1910), Edwin (1851-1935), Edward (1853-1924), Garret C., Rebecca A., and Anna Maud (1858-1945). In 1848, Nathaniel bought 640 acres along the Muskegon River from Abraham Lincoln for $5 per acre ($160 total). The land later became part of Macomb Township and Burnt Hills School District #4A which is now known as Eastern Michigan University District #2EJMMI vernacular High School Campus Area#1 located adjacent to Northeast Side Boulevard between Woodward Avenue & Ivey Avenue NW/NW corner with South side of Ivey Avenue NW corner . In 1951 the township merged into Metro Detroit Council Township which amalgamated with Oakland County on January 1st 1959 forming Metropolitan Detroit Council Government vernacular high school campus area#2 located adjacent to Northwest Corner of East Side Boulevard & Northside Highway near South side of Ivey Avenue NW corner with Southeast Corner of Woodward Ave & Mackenzie Road NE corner former site of Southwest Side Drive east boundary line then current site of Northside Boulevard west boundary line . From what we know so far it appears that this property once belonged to Isaac Brockway who may have sold it around 1830 or so to John Morton who next sold it circa 1840s or 1850s to Nathan Burton This property has been variously suspected as being one where Solomon Eaton built his first business in downtown Detroit or one where Nicholas Kapp purchased land east of present day Gratiot Street from Abram Lincoln about 1800s before moving west across Gratiot Street into what is today Downtown Detroit vernacular high school campus area#3 originally located adjacent to southeast corner First National Bank building northwest side then moved northeast across First National Bank building south side becoming what is now Museum Park Neighborhood

Burton is located in the Western Michigan University District of Mid-Michigan, and was founded on May 3, 1855 by men from the town of Norton. The town was named for General Arthur Burton who served in the Union army during the American Civil War.
