The Birmingham Gun Range, Inc. was founded in 1934 by the late Mayor of Birmingham, Harold Washington. The range was originally located on an old cotton farm on the corner of East 16th and Grinstead Streets. In 1951, the gun range moved to its current location on Courtland Boulevard in downtown Birmingham. The original building still stands and is used today as a shooting gallery and training center for new shooters.

With defense industry booming during wartime, demand for housing led to rapid growth in the early years of postwar suburbanization in north central Birmingham; however, much development occurred outside downtown until later decades when new neighborhoods were created around multiple universities within walking distance from each other (e.g., One Alabama Place/Nicholswood), as well as several shopping malls such as First National Center/Northeastside (now The Mall). During most recent decades downtown has experienced significant gentrification along East Liberty Avenue which has resulted in increased business activity along Second Street (just east of downtown) including bars and restaurants popular among college students and young professionals; however many homes still remain unoccupied or have been converted into apartment buildings due to high demand for space by businesses within minutes' walk from most attractions or transportation options inside or outside Downtown Birmingham limits

Birmingham, Michigan is a city located in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 739 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in the Wolverine State and home to some of the largest steel mills in America, as well as one of the world's leading leather-manufacturing industries. The city has a rich history dating back to 1818 when it was founded by General James K. Polk and Colonel John Hays as a small farming community on Point Comfort Peninsula on Lake Huron. The name "Birmingham" comes from Englishman George Stephenson's suggestion that an alternate spelling for Point Comfort be "Birstone". In 1835, Birmingham became part of Grand Rapids County under the jurisdiction of that county's first government, which consisted of three elected officials: a sheriff and two justices of peace; each with power over only within their own district. That year, also saw its first census, which yielded 1,846 residents in what is now downtown Birmingham; this number would grow to 3,451 by 1860 due to waves of immigration (mainly Irish) and increased industry around town (especially textile manufacturing). The nickname "The Steel City" originated during World War II when many American factories turned to produce munitions for Europe because becoming war-time allies meant free export goods from America - something that had not been possible before Pearl Harbor made exports mandatory for all countries involved in conflict. This production led to significant black employment throughout areas such as streetcar tracks being converted into blast furnaces used to create large sheets ofsteel called flathead iron ore; these operations were so noisy they required special ear protection while working inside factories otherwise you would hear your own heart beating out loud! In 1946, following passage of the National Defense Act which authorized military spending up until then exclusive to Congress via appropriations Acts passed through House committees chaired by Speaker Joe McCarthy or Senate Majority Leader Harry Byrd (the latter because he could sign onto any bill without objection), Birmingham’s mayor ordinance granted citizens “the right to join or support any political party they please” – effectively opening up voting rights enjoyed hitherto only by white males based on property ownership alone or patronage networks run by business leaders/ politicians who maintained allegiances with one major party or another
