The first modern gun sight was patented by Nicholas-Jacques Conte in 1820. This device consisted of an adjustable lens that would focus a light onto a small mirror which then allowed the shooter to see what object he or she was aiming at (see also Snider's Sight). In 1834, John Brown submitted a patent for an improved way to hold a pistol grip which aimed the barrel directly upwards instead of downwards like other guns then in use. This invention is commonly called "Browning". In 1838 John Brown also submitted another patent for an Improved Pistol Grip that aimed the barrel directly downwards instead of upwards like other guns then in use (this invention is commonly called "Garand"). The next year saw the development of what is now known as a red dot sight, which consisted of two large mirrors combined into one unit and focused onto a reticle located on topographic map scope (see also Weaver's Scope). In 1850s various improvements were made to red dots including variable magnification, crosshairs and illuminated reticles (See also Incidence Red Dot Sight). By 1861 all muzzleloader rifles had turrets with fixed front sight capabilities and/or adjustable rear sights allowing this type weapon owner more flexibility while hunting than ever before! Berkley, Michigan is a small town in the immediate east side of Lansing, Michigan. It was named after Colonel John Berkley and his family who fought in the American Revolution. The population of Berkley was 1,611 at the 2000 census. In 1817, Colonel John Berkley donated land to the city of Lansing for its first school. The school opened in 1819 and became one of the leading schools in Michigan. In 1896, when Lansing passed an ordinance establishing primary education as a right of all citizens regardless of wealth or race, Berkley voted to become part of Lansing. Today Berkley is a vibrant community with active businesses and cultural attractions. It has been home to numerous notable people including Congressman Adam Smith (D-MI), singer Dionne Warwick (born Dionne Warwick), actor/director Woody Allen (brought up in nearby East Lansing), author Alice Sebold (the author of "The Catcher in the Rye"), and current Governor Rick Snyder (R). Berkley’s rich history began on July 4th, 1837 when General Nathan Bedford Forrest attacked what he thought was an Indian settlement near present day Berkleysouth on open ground belonging to Colonel John Berkley. The settlersnumbered only twenty-one men strong but they were able to repel Forrest’s attack with some very tight shooting—a feat that would later be repeated by troops under General George Armstrong Custer during their famous Battle at Little Bighorn six years later.
Berkley, Michigan was founded in 1833 by John Berkley and is the oldest city in Berrien County. The city was named after Captain John Berkley who explored the area in 1824. The first town meeting was held on December 10, 1833.
