Some interesting attractions located within walking distance include: Lakeshore Park with its beachfrontwalk/dunes/ocean view; downtown with its various pubs/restaurants/theater; Central Avenue with its numerous boutiques and retail shops; as well as Branch Avenue which connects Lakeshore Park with other neighborhoods on the east side of town (west side being accessible only by car). There are also several government buildings situated within walking distance including City Hall (pictured) where decisions made concerning local issues are made; State Capitol Building which can be seen from much of central Detroit ; Court House where criminal trials take place; National Memorial Cemetery where soldiers who died during World War I , World War II , or Korea are buried ; while neighboring streets feature varietyof small businesses such as hair salons/jewelry stores/grocery stores together termed "The Village". One thing that makes Berkley so unique is that it has been home to several large companies throughout its history including Ford Motor Company (founded here by Henry Ford), General Motors Corporation (founded here by Alfred Sloan), Chrysler Corporation (founded here by William Durant), PepsiCo (founder Indra Nooyi lives here), United States Steel Corporation(former mainstay paper mill town & now energy production center), Honeywell International Inc.(headquarters until recently on Elmwood Ave.), DuPont de Nemours & Co., Inc.(largest chemical company ever formed outside North America), Jardine Matheson Lines Ltd.(largest shipping line ever formed outside Europe) among others- all major employers during their respective periods in town either directly or indirectly resident hereabouts.
