Berkley is located in the western part of Michigan, about eighty miles from Lansing. The town is named after Samuel Berkley, an early settler and one of the first farmers in the area. Berkley was incorporated as a village in 1882 and became a town in 1907. The population of Berkley was 986 at the census of 2000. The history of Berkley goes back to 1854 when two men, John Cavanaugh and James Fenton, moved from Illinois to what is now Michigan Territory. When they were unable to find land for themselves, they sold their holdings to others and started a farming community called Eastville. In 1867, another group of pioneers arrived and named their settlement after Samuel Berkley, who had been instrumental in helping them find land. The name Berkley was chosen because it was thought that it would be difficult for animals to travel through the woods thereabouts. After years of growth and development within the limits set by township government, Berkley attained city status on December 11, 1923 following passage by the Michigan Legislature thereof granting such status to municipalities with a population over 500 inhabitants pursuant to Article XIV., section 2a., MCL 3882.524 et seq.. On February 3, 1925 Mayor Charles Jourdain announced that City Hall would be moving from its original location on Main Street into new facilities which were then under construction at 208-210 Dexter Avenue (now Elmira Road). On May 6th Edward Sutherlin became Mayor effective with Mayor Jourdain’s resignation effective June 1st due to health reasons; he had been previously elected as Township Trustee for three terms beginning November 8th 1922 until his election as mayor on December 11th 1923 succeeding Adolphus Herrington who had served since 1920 when Township trustees were elected staggered four-year terms with no possibility of re-election without written consent from all participating members subject only to impeachment or removal by vote at any time upon motion by majority vote prorogued during recess or vacation without notice given either party thereto). During Sutherlin’s term as Mayor he made important contributions including but not limited to: creating Arbor Day Park; developing plans for water supply system development including planning authorization for purchase of 283 acre parcel west side Of Dexter Avenue bordered By Highways 10 & 12; initiating programs designed To improve public schools such as establishing Teachers Retirement System account balance requirements program; stimulating business activity thru establishment Of Parks And Recreation Department; creation Of Streets Department Headquarters Office & main building Materials warehouse where available; initiation Of Plans For Future Development Of Village AtCorporation Level On July 1st 1928 Orville Dickenbach became Manager/Director General - Planning Division responsible for all plans executed by municipality other than those submitted exclusively To Metropolitan Board OF Housing Authority docketed hereinunder - Planner Category I Plans being developed generally include but are not limited to: Water Distribution System Plan residential areasCommercial Areas Industrial areas parks Beaches All Other Plans having more than de minimis impact upon service quality elections prior approval necessary
The history of binoculars can be traced back to a time before they were even invented. In ancient Greece, observers used small, hand-held telescopes to view the sky. This early form of binoculars was called an “ophthalmos” and consisted of two pieces of metal or plastic that were connected by a tube. Ophthalmoses were not very reliable, so they were not used extensively until the 5th century BC when Greek astronomers developed a better type of binocular called an “amphora.” An amphora consisted of three parts: the eyepiece (the front lens), the objective lens, and the stop (a piece of metal or plastic). The objective lens was made from large glass lenses that could be focused onto a target and then seen through the eyepiece. The stop was a small piece of metal or plastic that prevented light from entering or exiting the Amphora at different points on the object being viewed. By 600 BC, Greek astronomers had created what is now known as a Schmidtian telescope which allowed them to view objects up to 350 miles away! These new telescopes became very important in helping Greeks learn about astronomy and other scientific disciplines. By 300 BC, Greeks had also developed what is now known as a Barlow telescope which allowed them to see things up to 1,000 miles away! In 1509 AD, Italian scientist Galileo Galilei designed and built his first reflecting telescope which allowed him to see things up to 4,000 miles away! This invention changed how humans saw the world and opened up many new opportunities for science. After Galileo's death in 1642 AD, his legacy continued with Dutch scientist Christiaan Huygens who developedHooke's law which states that light travels in straight lines according to its distance from its source!

Berkley, Michigan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Oakland County. The population was 34,691 at the 2010 census, making Berkley one of the most populous cities in Michigan. Berkley is home to several colleges and universities including University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; WesternMichigan University; and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Community College. The city also has a large park system with over 100 miles (160 km) of trails. The region that now makes up Berkley was once part of what are now four counties in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan: Mackinac Island, Lapeer County, Huron County and St Clair County. In 1814, as part of treaty negotiations between the United States and Great Britain after the War of 1812, Mackinac Island was ceded to America by Britain as part of the Treaty Of Greenock. The area that would become Berkley was first settled by Native Americans during this time period as small villages on catnap hills near present-day East Lansing operable for fur traders because access to fresh water sources were scarce in this remote landmass. In 1825, when Detroit became a territorial capital under American control following its purchase from France at the end of the Napoleonic Wars, Berkeley became an important town in nearby Inkster Township because it had access to more water resources than any other village within territorial boundaries at that time - including Flint River which lay just outsideDetroit limits and only reached Georgian Bay through canals dug by French fur trappers operating out from Fort Gratiot on Mackinac Island during their annual hunting trips across Lake Huron in search for white Sturgeon or white Foxes - both game species considered important for traditional Native American cooking dishes like "mutton pie" (a dish made from ground beef or pork mixed with flour and salt) Water availability limited development around inkster until 1830 when Woodward Avenue became a main street connecting downtown Detroit with Inkster Township via horse-drawn carriages called "squirrel coaches." One such coach service operator was Jeremiah Dixon who built his first cartload wagon shop on Woodward Avenue between Clark Street (now Grand Boulevard) and Hastings Place about two blocks northward from where he currently stands inside Metro Airport's Terminal 1 building - originally known as Dixon's Garage/Wine Shop before changes were made to its name in commemoration of Jeremiah Dixon Sr., father-in-lawof Metro Airport founder Drummel family member who donated property adjacent to Terminal 1 for use as airport acres beginning in 1947). On October 20th 1833 – just three weeks after establishment – Mr & Mrs Fenton opened their new store fronting Main Street east side opposite present dayMetro Center YMCA located today on State Street NW corner First National Bank Building just south side KFC restaurant located west side next door today across State Street NW corner two story brick building used by funeral directors until 1978 when it been turned into office tower occupied by many different businesses since then including Macy's Department Store moved there from former location next door back then
Berkley was founded in 1836 by John Berkley and his brother, Cyrus Berkley. In 1855, the brothers sold their land to a group of businessmen led by David Birney. The Birney family built the First National Bank of Berkley on the site in 1857. They also donated land to the city for public use, which persists to this day as the downtown area.
