Berkley is a small town in the Kalamazoo-Lapeer area of Michigan. The population was 1,451 at the 2010 census. It is included in the Grand Rapids-Muskegon-Holland metropolitan area. The name Berkley comes from two German settlers, Johann and Heinrich Berkheimer, who arrived in 1795. In 1814, Captain George Washington visited the area and named it after himself, Berkley Township being one of his several grants. In 1865, about 50 acres (20 hectares) of land west of Main Street were donated by Judge Augustus A. Child to create what became known as "Kelsey Road." This stretch of road served as a main artery for transportation to and from nearby towns until 1974 when it was decommissioned and buried under present day ramps leading to I-94. Kelsey Road still forms an important part of local life today with many businesses located along its length including One Mile Rd., which runs through the heart of town center; The Brewery; The Bakery & Cafe; Anchor Hocking Hardware; Stroud's Nursery; Applebees Children's Restaurant & Tavern; Hiwassee Lumber Company Warehouse - now defunct - and most recently First United Methodist Church which opened in early 2017. The first settler in Berkley was John Dutton who moved there from Findlay Township on the central Michiana Peninsula in 1827 during General Harrison's War with Great Britain that resulted in over 200 dead British military personnel and more than 2 millionacre damage done to Indian villages across Northwest Michigan Territory following treaty negotiations ended by General Harrison on September 17th that year at Detroit Heights near Marquette MI). Dutton had been an employee at Royal Governor Hull’s Fort Dearborn working on construction work for Major General Lewis Cass’s Expedition led by President James Kieft which culminated with exploration into Upper Peninsula lands east of Huron River beginning on July 24th 1826 while under command of Lieutenant Colonel David Wilkinson searching for a new route past Mackinac Island linking Superior with Lakes Huron & Michigan City becoming Clearwater Bay on August 8th1826 – note: this expedition also surveyed much further south reaching Georgian Bay where they found lying Dutch Harbor (today's Thunder Bay) before turning back due to unreliable navigation conditions). After successfully clearing land southeastward he built a log cabin near present day downtown Berkley using plans drawn up by his employer based on surveys made by Hamilton Marston aboard HMS Erebus commanded by Commodore John Stuart during their failed attempt to discovered Lake Superior during late winter 1797/early spring 1800.)Dutton may have been other early settlers such as Ebenezer Butler who arrived about 1840 or William Shepherd who came about 1850 although no records exist verifying these claims.) There are multiple sources stating that between 175&200 pioneers called “The Pioneers” settled here around 1830 according to government records however this group does not include earlier German immigrants such as Johann Bockhöfner or Heinrich Hecker who arrived later that same year.)The first school building was erected here in 1836 but it burned down soon after being built.—Today’s First United Methodist Church opened its doors less than one year ago!

Berkley, Michigan is a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 2,919 at the 2000 census. Berkley is known for its apple orchards and its manufacture of books and other reading materials. The first people to live in Berkley were two brothers, Isaac and Jacob Berkley, who arrived in 1827 from New York City. They built a cabin on the edge of what is now downtown Berkley. In 1829, they married Anna Beattie and founded the town with their children by her. Their daughter Sarah became the first female teacher in Michigan when she taught school in Berkley from 1830 to 1835. In 1870, three brothers – John W., George W., and William Henson – established a printing cooperative in what is now Downtown Berkley. The printshop produced newspapers that circulated throughout the Lower Peninsula until about 1925 when it was closed down due to costs associated with World War II. The pear crop failed during Prohibition which caused some businesses to close down; however, many others kept going because they were able to sell their products outside of drinking states like Michigan wine prohibition stopped those sales as well. In 1933, President Franklin D Roosevelt announced that he would not seek re-election so he turned over power to Vice President James Fuhrman who had been his running mate in 1932-34 opposed him politically while FDR was term-limited at his fourth year as president so he could run for office again next year only this time he would be successful getting renomination since most people thought FDR would go into history as one of America's greatest presidents ever even though some knew deep down he didn't really want another four years out there after being forced into office twice). On November 3rd 1933 (the day before Franklin D Roosevelt died), voters approved a new form of government where FDR's Vice President James Fuhrman took over as Acting President effective December 20th 1933 becoming America’s first Presidential Pro Tempore since George Washington
Berkley, Michigan was founded in 1835 by John Berkley and his wife Rachel. The town was on the banks of the Lapeer River, just south of what is now Detroit. In 1839, the village of Berkley was founded nearby and soon afterwards, the towns of Ann Arbor and Highland Park were developed around it.
