Benton Harbor, Michigan is a town in Washtenaw County, Michigan, United States. The population was 7,546 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit–Warren–Dearborn Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1824 by Captain Benton and his family as a port on the Rouge River. The current town site was laid out in 1868 by John Haggerty and James Richardson. The first settler in Benton Harbor was Capt. John Benton who settled there with his family in 1824. He built a log cabin on what is now called Post Road and named it Benton Harbor after himself and his son James. In 1830, Capt. Benton's heirs sold their interest in the town to Jno Richardson for $1,000 cash which they delivered to him personally on horseback from Rochester, New York then traveled back home to build their new home here at Post Road & Western Avenue where they started Live Aid Brewery (now known as macros) today! In 1840-1841 GEO Fritsche came downriver from Green Bay with his wagon train but foundered on shoals near present day Isabella Island before making landfall about 8 miles north of present day Benton Harbor - he camped out beside what is now known as "Fritsche Beach" while still searching for an alternate route inland! In 1864-1865 George Stephenson built the first steamboat navigation between Grand Rapids and Chicago via Oscoda Lake - this boat made stops at Benton Harbor enroute! In 1870 Majestic Mills became one of the first industrial centers west of the Mississippi River when it opened its doors to provide employment for local farmers – soon other mills followed suit throughout metro Detroit! The 1900 Census counted 6 people living alone in shacks or tents along Post Road outside of modern day downtown – considered primitive even then!! On November 15th 1925 local resident Willard Bigham set up camp 3 blocks east of Main Street during prohibition days just south of what is now Stateline Park – he name later changed to "Stateline Inn" !! This spot remains today as one end of US 10 just south of downtown Lansing….. Today much has changed within our community since 1925 including: stateline inn (now stateline park), post road Landing (@ post Rd & Western Ave), downtown Lansing (downtown core), main St., Allendale Dr., Paper Mill Rd., etc…. However many old things have not changed such as live aid brewery (now macros).

Benton Harbor is a city in and the county seat of Genesee County, Michigan, United States. The population was 21,463 at the 2010 census. The city is named for Captain Samuel Benton, who surveyed the area in 1824. It has been called "the most important commercial center on the Great Lakes" and "the Gateway to the Upper Peninsula". The first Europeans to visit what is now Benton Harbor were French traders in 1622. In 1701, settlers from Holland founded a small town on the mouth of the river that became known as Amsterdam Landing. The town quickly grew into a major port on the Great Lakes with exports going to Europe and North America. In 1824,Captain Samuel Benton surveyed what is now Benton Harbor after hearing about an805-acre (3 km2) tract of land that had been offered for sale by George Washington Houghton. He named it after himself because he had explored much of present-day Michigan during his previous explorations in 1821-23 as part of his survey for U.S.-Canada boundary lines. A post office was established at Benton Harbor in 1830, and it soon became one of the most important commercial centers on the Great Lakes due to its location at the junction of several great waterways - including both Battle Creek and Ottawa Rivers - as well as its access to goods from Canada and other parts of Northwestern United States via water routes such asthe Detroit River or Lake Superior route. Benton Harbor went through rapid growth during its early years due to its importance as acommercial center on Lake Michigan; made possible by advances in transportation technology which made shipping more efficient on larger lakeside harbors like Detroit or Toronto than earlier where Ports Carpenters could only load goods onto flatboats before being taken downriver for delivery ashore or storage offshore until they could be unloaded again at another port or harbour
Benton Harbor is a town in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census, down from 2,045 at the 2000 census. It is part of Kalamazoo County. The first permanent settler in Benton Harbor was John Wheeler on July 12, 1833. He and his family built a cabin on the island in what is now called Wheeler's Landing Park and raised corn and cattle until 1835 when they moved to their current location on land that they donated to the town. In 1839, Benton Harbor became a county seat with territorial government under Governor Joseph Woodward (1806-1841). A year later it merged withiroth into Kalamazoo County because of its geographic proximity to other cities in Michigan as well as its status as an agricultural center due to its fertile soil and presence of water resources. During World War II, Benton Harbor played an important role in providing munitions for the war effort by manufacturing torpedoes and bombs for military use. The harbor also served as a refueling stop for aircraft during bombing raids over Japan; this made it one of only two safe places for Allied bombers to land after takeoff without fear of being bombed back home by Japanese fighter planes. In 1966, Benton Harbor received cityhood status following a vote by the governing body of Kalamazoo County which then passed an ordinance granting city status to any municipality that has met certain criteria including having a population greater than 5,000 people and making progress towards becoming self-sufficient within three years without outside assistance or subsidies from either government entities or private individuals/ foundations.). In 1993, Benton Harbor annexed neighboring village of Lathrop which had been vacant since 1988 when that village's last inhabitant left after not being able to keep up with physical infrastructure requirements associated with cityhood such as trash collection and paving streets). As part of annexation ceremonies both villages exchanged materials including historical sketches/photos from each side depicting how their communities have interacted over time while also sharing ideas about how best to connect their respective populations together through economic development opportunities etc.).
