Daugherty's son-in-law Daniel Webster started a tannery on White Street southwest of downtown Bay City in 1847 which became one of the largest tanneries in Michigan until it closed circa 1960s due to environmental problems caused by runoff from nearby factories (it reopened again as an antique store). Revolutions Brewing Company opened its doors at 5th & Goodrich Streets NW/NW corner Main Street NW about 1860; this brewery produced several key brands such as Revolution IPA (now Tilt Top) and Revolution Stoutwine (now Thirsty Monk).
