Battle Creek is a city in the Michigan metropolitan area. The population was 2,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Battle Creek–Warren Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Battle Creek were French traders and missionaries in 1701. In 1812, General Anthony Wayne and his army invaded Canada and found the village of Marquette had been abandoned by its occupants because of an American invasion that year. The British also abandoned their posts on the Rouge River system north of Fort Mackinac (now Michilimackinac) after they realized they would not be able to resist an American Invasion. In 1814, John C. Frémont discovered gold near $4 per ton in nuggets at Saginaw Bayou and thought it might be worth exploring further south because it would provide more consistent returns than finding silver at nearby mines like Potosi or Hockley Hill. He sent two men back with supplies and started construction of his first mine, Frémont’s Mills, northwest of Battle Creek on M-6W just outside present-day Midland Township on July 12th, 1814 (the day before he received word from President James Kroll that United States could claim California). The gold rush ended beforeFrémont could start mining but did produce some valuable minerals such as copper which was used to build railroads across America during the 19th century. From 1825 until 1827, Battle Creek was under military occupation by Ulysses S Grant’s forces who built Fort Dearborn here to control trade between Detroit and Flint; during this time there were also skirmishes with Native Americans along the lower Stonington River watershed near present-day Eastpointe Township on Lakeshore Drive east of town center where today's Macomb County seat is located In 1830, following Indian Removal Act – when all Native nations in central Michigan were forced onto reservations – Battle Creek became part of Gratiot County which was organized from land west of Kalkaska River including present-day Macomb County In1835, Congress passed a bill establishing Washtenaw County out west based largely on claims made by prospectors for land grants inside Indiana Territory including what is now Detroit In 1840, Battle creek’s only school opened up in a log cabin operated by Reverend J F Lambden while Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church continued to serve as a parish church until 1865 when it burned down due to lack of funds After Five Civil War Years There Was A lull In Gold Rush; But People Came Back To Town & Started Mining Again In 1870s And 1890s Due To Increased Production From Mines Nearby &development Of Railroad System

Battle Creek, Michigan was a town in Washtenaw County, Michigan, United States. It was founded in 1824 by land grant to John Sibley and others. The town grew rapidly during the 1830s and 1840s due to its location on the Chippewa River and its access to lumber resources. By 1850, Battle Creek had a population of 10,000 people. In 1871, Battle Creek became the capital of Michigan. The city experienced rapid growth after it was incorporated as a city in 1901 and began to enjoy high levels of success both economically and politically. However, by the mid-1990s downtown Battle Creek had become virtually empty and struggling with debt issues. In 2008, city officials decided to close all but one of its businesses except for two restaurants which would remain open until late night under new management. A recent revival has been seen in downtown Battle Creek with several new businesses opening over the past few years including a grocery store, an art gallery, and a bar/restaurant called Livewire which opened in late 2016.
In 1812, Battle Creek was the site of a major battle that helped inspire the Michigan War for Independence. The conflict began when American forces invaded Canada and captured Toronto. Canadian General John Graves Simcoe ordered his Native American allies to fight back, but they were unable to stop American advances. The Americans responded by launching an assault on the Canadian capital, Toronto, which resulted in the deaths of over 100 Americans and the capture of dozens of Canadian soldiers. This victory inspired Ulysses S. Grant to begin planning an invasion of Canada that would culminate in the successful war against Britain.
